Dare to Be Stupid--"Weird Al" Yankovic (1985)

This Review commissioned by Mrs. T. Wolcott.

I got this CD because I liked Weird Al and it was pretty cheap. As a whole, the album is pretty good, but it is brought down by a few lame original songs. This does get better with the later albums, though. A few songs of note.

Like a Surgeon This is funny because I'm watching ER as I'm typing this. The attempted Madonna-voice only adds to the humor. Love the EKG flatlining effect at the end.

Dare to Be Stupid This really sounds like a Devo tune but its not a direct parody of any one song. The lyrics are great. "Party till you're broke" could be a bumper sticker. "Ok I can hear you now!"

I Want A New Duck No real insights on this one except now when I hear the original I expect to hear the ducks quacking instead of the regular guitar noise. This was done on DTV one time (a montage of Disney cartoons with songs played in the bac kground).

One More Minute Great song! A perfect breakup album. The imagery makes you either crack up or hurl, sometimes both.

Yoda This song is noteable for the fact that Jason & I heard the song it was a parody of, "Lola" by the Kinks, on the way to Sweetheart Ball in 11th grade. Being the geeks we are, we sang the Weird Al version. Quite the bonding experience.

Hooked on Polkas The same thing as "Alternative Polka" from the Bad Hair Day album, but with all those great early 80's tunes. Including "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Which causes me to laugh. And of course "We're Not Gonna Take It" by the ultim ate in class, Twisted Sister.

In all, a good CD though I'd suggest one of the Greatest Hits albums over this one maybe because there would be more good songs.

Next album by this artist.
