Xmas carols on Halloween

Today is October 31. You know, carving pumpkins, putting on a costume, candy corn massages from mom. Tonight we had band practice, and just for fun I wore my poodle skirt from a couple Halloweens ago. Except it's always hot in the community room so I didn't want to wear my sweater and instead wore a black polo shirt. So it was more like what if a poodle skirt girl worked at Blockbuster. And yeah, we played Christmas music at rehearsal tonight, so that was a little bit odd. Fun though. Oh! The flute lady who always laughs at my jokes (Theresa) said that Jethro Tull have a Christmas album. I will have to look into that.

Happy Cattiversary, C-po!

Today is October 29. Happy Birthday to my brother Jonathan, and a belated happy Cattiversary to Calypso and me. 10/25 for those keeping score at home. We have lived together for three years now, which means that the store is nearly three years old too. It's funny; Saddle Creek was celebrating their 3-year when we were there learning from them. They seemed so wise, they'd been around for three years.

Tomorrow we're having a team outing to InPlay which is an arcade place downtown. I think it will be fun. I plan to play that shooting hoops game again, and hopefully pinball if they have it. I never got to go to arcades as a kid and I never really spent much time in one until getting to know Chris and Brent. I got hooked on pinball playing the South Park table in the MU.

Talking of the store, I was in there on Sunday to get Leopard and I got some MAXIMUM hugs from the people working that I actually knew. I guess that is a good way to get hugs: work at a place that is very close-knit, with awesome people, and then leave. When they see you again you will get some loves.

Can't say it enough: I love fall

Today is October 28. A year ago, Jess and I were departing Parma Heights and heading back east toward Toledo. Along the way we stopped in Milan and checked out the town. It was an awesome, sunny fall day just like yesterday and today.

Saturday was great. I did some canvassing for Governor Richardson in Altoona. Altoona is a dog-town, big time. 1 to 4 dogs per capita seems nearly mandatory. Also there were a bunch of Canada geese flying very low overhead. I shielded myself with my clipboard because they were freaking me out. Luckily, they were just flying low to go chill on a man-made pond on the edge of town. Oh, and we met this lady who had all sorts of lighthouse memorabilia in her house! It is fun for me, as piney-collector-queen that I am, to meet others with house-filling obsessions. (p.s. I'm not a compulsive hoarder, I sweah tah gawd)

Then in the eve I went up to Ames and had dinner with David and then went to a housewarming party for Chris and Helen Colvin. They have this room above their garage that is the definitive college-style hangout den. I hadn't seen those guys in a long time, plus Chris gave me props for introducing him to his beloved in the first place, so that was nice. Moral to that story is, it's good to be the lynch-pin in different groups of friends. You can Make Things Happen.

How the eff did I miss this?

Today is October 24. Admittedly, I have very little interest in awards shows, other than snipping at the red carpet fashions the day after. But srsly, you'd think I could have been bothered to watch the 06 Emmys for Conan hosting. Conan parodies "Trouble" from The Music Man. Of course it's well established that C.O'B loves him some Music Man, so that makes it extra-cool, to me. Right up there with Shipoopi on Family Guy for best Music Man references/parodies. Man, doing that show was one of the best parts of senior year. Even if I didn't get to perform, it was great stage managing and moving the sets and stuff and hanging out with my friends. I should state, for the record, that one of the reasons I took the lunchroom helper job was that I had been GUARANTEED that there was "no way" RSHS would ever do the Music Man for the spring musical. Thus I wasn't worried about disqualifying myself from auditioning by working in the lunchroom instead of taking chorus 5th period. OH WELL. I'm still awesome. Next time, more rants from my perceieved high school injustices such as "I should have gotten outstanding band student for 1999."

Taking the Train to Drunk-Town

Today is October 20. It has been a good day. I went with a friend to see The Comebacks which was hilarious. Full of great actors and funny moments. Then we went and shot some pool at Stix. I am pretty miserable at pool still but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

After pool I drove around for a little bit and then got a pizza at Casey's. They had a thing where you could get a 2-liter pop for 25 cents with the purchase of a pizza. I got a Sunkist b/c I like orange pop and it is a cheat day. Then I heard Somebody's Baby on the radio and it made me sad so I decided to get some booze. I went to Dahl's and got a thing of vanilla vodka so I could make creamsicles with my orange pop. I'm on my second one right now and I gotta tell ya, it tastes pretty good.

I'm watching South Park from Wednesday that I missed due to the satellite at Snap being messed up. Tomorrow I have a band concert with WDM Community band, so that should be good. I also have a disc of this show Big Train which was a sketch program on the BBC that had Simon Pegg. Funny funny stuff.

It's Finally Sunny Again

Today is October 19. The sun finally came out today! Up until some time this afternoon it had been overcast and raining off and on since Sunday. I was looking out the window at one point and I saw that [Mr.] blue sky again. It was pretty exciting.

I finished up another program at work so that was a good way to wind up the week. Adorable young C-po is washing his paw, and I've got a couple loads of laundry in the wash. I have all 3 of my Netflix at home, and I'm going to play pool tomorrow. It has the markings of a good weekend.

A sudden urge to play ping-pong

Today is October 14. I'm listening to Pour Some Sugar on Me and it is big-time reminding me of Balls of Fury. I saw it in the theater, I'll admit it. Best line: "Clumsy, clumsy hippos" delivered with lazy-German brilliance by Tom Lennon. Anyway, I guess that's what the movie people probably wanted, for me to think about their movie when I hear some Def Lep, but whatever. The other song I associate with BoF is Eddie Money's "Two Tickets to Paradise," from the scene where the (surprisingly hot) leather-clad David Koechner performs with his trained cockatiel that sings the "two tickets" bit.

Last night a friend and I went to Borders to get the Steven Colbert book. I leafed through it when I got home, definitely worth picking up if you are a fan of the show. At work recently I learned that some of my GOP-supporting friends quite like the Report, which sort of surprised me. Granted, I don't get to watch the show hardly at all, but when it first started and I was downloading all the episodes, it seemed like a straight-up mock-fest on Conservative "news"men. ::Shrugs:: maybe it's one of those Archie Bunker things, where people are supposed to laugh at him for being so absurd, but actually laugh with him because he says the things they wish they could.

Scorpion woman for Halloween is a go. I just need some kind of bigass silver scorpion necklace, and possibly, as others have suggested, temporary scorpion tattoos, or bedazzled rhinestone scorpions on my gloves or dress. I think it's gonna be friggin awesome.

I suck at this

Today is October 9. I don't really have much to talk about except I felt like I should get a new news page going. Omaha trip went well except for getting in a car accident while riding around with Brent. Someone changed lanes w/o looking and smashed into us. I got some glass in my forearm, kind of scary. Bandaids and neosporin took care of me. Jess thought the car would be totaled, but I haven't heard yet the final verdict. Got some good used media (books/cds/dvds/lps) and even 2 new cd's (new in package, not in content, lol).

Went to the Zoo on Sunday and got to see a keeper feeding the penguins, and also a mom and baby tiger. Oh this has nothing to do with the zoo but do not miss Jessica's "Red Fish" theory. Something about how people who are seriously committed to weirdness (i.e. me) are maybe more able to find a "match" by attracting the other red fish, rather than the people with normal interests, a/k/a gray fish. This came on the heels of me discussing my interest in famous fires, such as the Hartford Circus Fire. We were sitting in the Mai Tai lounge and for some reason I was thinking about the Cocoanut Grove Fire. The exits were clearly labeled and open and stuff, but I think it was the overall tropical theme that triggered the memory, rather than any particular concerns for safety. So for the remainder of the trip, if I thought of something sufficiently odd, I would preface it with "Here's another 'Red Fish' thing..."
