Today is November 2 and I am typing this in the Marston computer lab
because Larry is sick. I think it has something to do with the
network. It's seriously bumming me out.
Earlier today FHP section G2 (well some of it anyway) went
on a tour of the
Brunnier gallery. It was really neat. There
were many great
Christian Petersen sculptures. And we were
reminded that censorship is an ugly thing in this country, since he
liked to sculpt the human form naked but ISU was all uptight about it.
Don't know what I'm gonna do this weekend....
Still November 2 but later. I'm in
the MWL computer lab with Emily, doing some hard-core C++ programming.
hw8.C is its name, kicking our butts is its game.
Turns out Larry wasn't really sick, it was the network. Happy day!
Today is November 3. I finally got hw8 working, after a lengthy
evening of coding and cursing. It has been a boring-as-hell
evening at home. If you like Rush be sure to check out
Deep Rush Thoughts. Some are kind of stupid but some will
make you laugh like an idiot. Case in point:
I had this dream once, where I was in charge of playing the high-hat for
Neil during a live performance, and I even though that was all I had to
do, I was really having
trouble, and Neil got really pissed off at me, and had to take my stick
away, and just do it himself.
I think I'll put that on the wall outside my room =)
Today is November 5. I am now 20 years old. Too old, if you ask me.
But I am consoled by the fact that I can always act like a little kid
and do stupid things as long as it is fun. I finally got off my butt and
ftp-ed some cool images here.
These were taken at
SUB films showing of Carrie (see below) by a cool girl named,
I believe, Henna.
[Myself, Joe, Jay, Jay's GF]
[Jamila & some guy]
[Joel, John, & some guy]
I apologize for not knowing who the "Some guys" are. If you know drop
me a note. I am also saddened
by the lack of Mendi. She and the aforementioned Joel came in
costume as Bob and Doug McKenzie (SUB film showed Strange Brew
earlier in the semester. Plus it's just a really cool idea for a
costume). I will try to get the Polaroid of them scanned in here
for you all to observe.
Today is November 9.
For Honors this morning, section G2 played
Wallyball with section G3,
I believe. We split up into 2 groups and played in neighboring courts.
We had a grand old time, though we didn't play by the
rules so much.
You may be wondering about the image to your immediate left.
This is again, me at Carrie. I
was only nineteen years old at the time that picture was taken. The
photo was taken by Mendi, and scanned by me.
BIG NEWS! I am now a real lyricist. Last year, I sent one of
my songs, "Rumble at Panchero's," to one
of my favorite local bands,
Grubby Ernie.. The dude sent me back
an e-mail saying like, yeah, those are cool, maybe we'll use that....
but not sounding too excited. Imagine my surprise, when, almost a year
later, RGN and Alicia come running up to me after a Grubby Ernie show,
exclaiming that they played my song! They actually played "Rumble at
Panchero's!" And I guess before the performed it, they even said,
"This song was e-mailed to us by a girl who wrote it..." or words to
that effect. Anyway, I'm really excited about this, because it's
the first song I've written (well, written the words to at least) that
has been performed by an actual band! I mean, Keith and I performed our
Medieval Ballad in Sr. English, but this is just a schoche
cooler!! RGN even e-mailed the drummer, to say, "Hey, I'm friends with
the girl who wrote the song; she really wants to hear it so could you
be sure to play it at your next show (coincidentally their last show
ever)? He sent her a nice reply, saying yes, they will be playing it
then, along with lots of other songs, even some going "all the way back
to 1997." And apparently "Rumble" will be on their next CD too.
So everyone come out to the show on Dec 2; it will be a great time!
Today is November 10. Here is a link to an
adorable picture
I thought you might enjoy. It's offsite, so I take
no responsibility if it is mysteriously not there someday.
(Although if that occurs, could someone politely
tell me so that I
may remove the link =)
Today is November 14,
Geddy Lee Tuesday!
Kids In The Hall
officially *rule*, as does
American Movie. I met a cool girl online today, and this is
her site. It's great.
Later this afternoon, I'll be doing a bit of acting at the Hub (the
vend-o-land place by the library). Should be exciting and embarrassing.
After that, it's off to Des Moines for some adventures.
Today is November 17, the last day of school before break.
I made a small image that you can tile and make as your background.
Here it is xfilespaper.gif.
Results from Tuesday. I ended up not having to do the acting after
all, b/c I was late getting there. What a relief! The trip to
Des Moines went fine. I even found
ZZZ Records!
It's a really cool vinyl store right in the heart of confusing
downtown Des Moines. I bought Styx II and Gentle Giant live.
(Of course, I haven't listened to them yet but I can't wait until
I get home!) Then I somehow found my way back to the Interstate,
and over to
Krispy Kreme for a creme filled and a cruller. Yeah!
The next stop was
Half Price Books where I was pleased to find the 1981
Rush release, Moving Pictures, in quite good condition, along
with Renaissance's Song of Scherezade, which I have been told
is excellent.
"What about Geddy Lee??" you may very well now be asking.
I'm getting to that. Savin' the best for last, if you will.
I toyed with the notion of going to
Valley West Mall,
my favorite Des Moines mall, but it was getting dark out, and I
was getting antsy. I chose to continue in my path to
Best Buy. I immediately
found my way to the "New Releases/Big Sellers" area, where I met
a couple of dudes buying the new Marilyn Manson release. I didn't find
what I was looking for yet, but I had resolved NOT to resort to looking
in the "L" section. It should be on an end row or in some other
special spot, I decided. And then, there it was.
My Favorite Headache
"Ooh, a digipak!" was my first thought. I picked it up and scurried
hastily to the DVD section. I picked up Toy Story 2 with little hassle,
but had some difficulty in finding American Movie. This mostly stemmmed
from the fact that I had no idea what category it would be in. The
employee successfully helped me, and I paid for my purchases, and went
home. All in all, a great night.
Today is November 27. Break went waaay too fast.
Go read
Jessica's story. It's cool. Gotta love that
autobiographical historical fiction!
Or maybe that's not it at all; I just like to imagine that I
am not the only one who writes
stories about high school with a
girl very much like herself as the main character.
I'm getting some
Journey
records courtesy of eBay.
You come for the cover art, and stay for the tunes.
Today is November 29. I think I'm getting dumber the longer I'm in
college.
