Cats who "accidentally" walk on num lock, and the women who love them.
mood:    amused
Today is November 21. I was having some trouble using command+` to switch between my browser windows. Couldn't cmd+q or cmd+w either. This was mildly disconcerting. Could still command+tab, so I knew the key was ok. Tried restarting. Finally decided to log into my other account so I could isolate the prob., but when I went to log in, I found there were many letters I couldn't type. Confused, I pulled up a word processor and started to type. just....numbers. Hit num lock, return to glorious letters. Recall extended period of time where cat was perched atop the keyboard. What a naughty.

True tales of breakfast
mood:    upset
Today is November 20. Due to a series of circumstances, I ended up doing my big grocery shopping trip for the time interval at the Super Target by the freeway. I needed hash browns, so I surveyed the choices in the freezer section. As you may recall, I like the little square kind of HB. Hy-Vee calls them southern style; the bigger squares are sometimes called "home fries." It's a pretty standard kind of frozen potato. Little cubes.

So I buy the Target store brand called Market Pantry or whatever. I even take extra care to select a package that doesn't have a hole in it. (Hello, freezer burn) Today I go to make some breakfast, knife open the hashbrownn bag, and the dang things are nothing more than cut-up Krinkle Cut fries! Now, don't get me wrong, I loves the krinkle cut fries. They are my favorite kind of fries, but they don't belong at the breakfast table! It just comes off as supremely ghetto. Targhetto.

Rippin' off Ramona
mood:    tired
Today is November 18. I was reading some good ol' Overheard and I read this entry about confusing "quarter til" in time with the 25 cent piece, quarter. I swear in one of those Ramona books, the young Miss Quimby had the same misunderstanding. She was supposed to leave for school at "a quarter after eight" but was late because she concluded that it meant 8:25. Although I'm pretty sure this was either the kindergarten or first grade, and the people in the quote were both identified as "teens." A little obscure, to be sure, but given the popularity of the Ramona books, surely some other Overheard readers were reminded. Now I wanna go to the library and get some of those books.

Calypso and I are doing fine. I think the roofers are finally done; as I mentioned previously, all the pounding was driving him a little bit batty. He continues to enjoy his new hidey spot, between the couch and the wall. there is a cat....between couch and wall...

What about Milky Sadness, emo with more Cowbell?
mood:    inspired
Today is November 14. I am currently enjoying day 1 of 2 off. So far I have been doing things I enjoy: sleeping, working on crossword puzzles, listening to music. Later in the day I'll likely venture out in pursuit of groceries.

I was listening to some of my music and some REO Speedwagon came on. "Keep on Loving You" to be exact. You can peruse the true needy, relationship-doormat nature of the lyrics here I was like, "more like EMO Speedwagon, am I right?" I decided that would be a good name for an indie band that played whiny, acoustic covers of the best heartbroken songs of the 70's and 80's. I went to google and apparently someone beat me to it. Although they don't even have their own website; if you hover over the hyperlink it is a mailto: and not an http:. I probably could still give it a shot. On Saturday I got to hang out with Molly, and when we were in the ladies' room at the bar, I noticed she had on a Dashboard Confessional shirt. Since I had consumed a few beers, I kept looking at her and singing "SLEEP WITH ALL THE LIGHTS ON" since that's the only part of the song I could remember. Finally she got the hint that I had noticed her shirt. It was a quickie visit for Molly Lynn but it was still very fun to see her.

Well they have been putting a new roof on our apt building for the past week or so and it is making a certain orange kit "stressed out." I thought he was hiding under the bed so I put my leftover cereal milk on the floor in my bedroom, trying to entice him to come out. Then a few minutes ago, he emerged from behind the couch. I guess it is important for cats to have a place they feel they can hide; C-po apparently has two!

Cheap Thrills

Today is November 8. Good job with the voting, people. Newly elected officials, let's get out there and make the voters proud!! Special Roland-Story Norsemen election shoutout to Rich Olive, winner for Iowa Senate in District 5. I was in a Kids Praise play with Rich where he played a book and I played a dog. Really. He is also the announcer for the Norse Football games.

Here is a cool thing you can do for some free fun. Go on iTunes music store, look up karaoke versions of some songs you like. Make a playlist of them. Then when you are bored you can listen and sing along with 0:30 samples of the songs. Use your TV remote for a microphone.

Calypso's new hobby is leaves. He likes to get them off the porch and bring them in the house. Sometimes he bats them around, other times he crunches away on them. I think they might have made him sick once though so I try not to let him eat too many leaves. Unlike Angel, Calypso is not allowed to take the road less traveled. (inside joke for my friend Kim and I from early years in HS attending a conference at ISU and being bored and doodling) A cat carrying anything in his mouth = best thing ever. Ok now this one is a scrap of tarpaper off the roof that they are redoing. That is not a leaf, so much.

Entering our 27th year of complete buffoonery
mood:    happy
Today is November 5. Once again I had to work on my birthday. It was a pretty good day, I got to work on some repairs and had mostly nice people. Got some calls from friends and family so that was nice =) Aunt Karen sent my a very Stuff On My Cat-inspired bday card of a key wearing a cowboy costume. Eb gave me a prezzie from his school; a Toledo College of Medicine Swe atshirt. Also had a nice time with Shannon for a Rachel b-day eve dinner at a southside Applebees.

I've got some pictures from my trip last weekend. Also there's some more on Jess's camera from places where she had her cam but I didn't. Overall it was a good time. The Sable, however, did not prove as hardy as previously hoped. For details see my next MBNA statement. Speaking of credit cards, I randomly decided to start using my capital one after several months of not. I started using it in Michigan and expected that it would immediately be flagged or something. But I guess the capital one security guys don't consider credit card use 3 states away, on hotels, gas, and food, to be necessarily fraudulent.

this one's for my pal Roger. Plus everyone congratulate him on Specialisting in the T.O.
