Today is January 7, 1:22 in the AM. Chris, Aaron, Brent, and I are all
hanging out at Brent's. The guys are playing NHL Hitz 2K3. I picked the
game out at Hollywood Video because it had Chris Pronger from my beloved
Blues on the cover. Chris is
being a good boyfriend and playing this season as the Blues. When I
first got here, they were playing the evil Dallas Stars and ended up
beating them. (BTW shout-out to Brent for letting me use his laptop for
this update)
For the curious, I also spent my New Year's with these same three people,
at this same location. Then on the 3rd, Chris and I went to Sharon's
house for cookie baking. It was a good time. Saw lots of my old high
school friends and basically got re-acquainted with them. Remembered why
they are my friends in the first place!
Have been working a lot of course, since it's break. Sunday night,
Chris, Alicia (not my roommate, a different one from Sioux City),
Chris's roommate Kurt, and I went to Chuck
E. Cheese in West Des Moines. I played some fun games like the
Simpsons, Spider Stomp, Skee-ball, and this virtual bowling thing where
you fling a puck and it hits pins on the screen. The pizza was pretty
good too.
Last comment for this entry (sorry it comes right out of nowhere) but
when we
went to Sioux City last week to get Chris's car, we also went to Toys R
Us. They had some dolls/action figures from The Lord Of the Rings. They
had a fairly large doll of Legolas, but he had MOLDED PLASTIC HAIR. I
was so angry. The Eowen and Arwen dolls get to have fiber hair, why
can't he?? I was like, what is the point. He has that beautiful flowing
blonde hair and then the doll has molded plastic crap. I was so sad.
Another disappointment was the "Vacation Smithers" Simpsons doll, who
should come with little plastic pineapples (if you have seen the episode
where Homer takes care of Burns while Smithers goes on vacation, you know
what I mean) but instead he comes with a little plastic duffle bag with
just the tops of the pineapples sticking out. Kind of a bummer. But I
have my Hello Kitty pineapple stuff to fill the void.
Well sorry it took me so long to get this year a-journalin' but I am a bum.
The hockey announcer on Hitz 2K3 just said "The Blues find
themselves Lords of the Rink"
Today is January 13. First day of school for
spring 2003 semester.
Friday, Chris and I made a run to Blair to get him moved into his new
place. It's not a bad little apartment. I hooked up the "entertainment
center" which is TV, DVD, VCR, PS2, and N64. Chris put his desk
together. Then we drove home via I-80 and had dinner at the Olive Garden
in West Des Moines.
A week or so ago at work we were all trying to remember Dan Mathis's
wife's first name. Andy, Meyer, and I were all stumped. Then Sunday
(yesterday) we were talking about the Bee Gees since one of them,
Maurice, had just died. I knew one of the other brothers was Barry, but
the third name escaped me. A few minutes later I yelled "ROBIN! That's
the third Bee Gee and YOUR WIFE!" (I said thie pointing at Mathis) He
was glad I finally remembered her name. I thought it was a weird
coincidence.
After work I came home and said my good-byes to Chris. Then he headed
off for Blair, for good this time. He'll be coming back to visit often
but it's still sad! Then I went to sleep at about 3:30 pm. I woke up a
little before 4 am today. That's a lot of sleeping, even for me. So I
laid around watching TV, then I took a shower and got some Hy-Vee
breakfast at 6:15 am. It was weird to be in the store so early yet not
on the clock. I had on my sneakers which felt strangely light compared
to my work shoes. I'll go to my classes at 1 and 2 pm, then head in to
work again.
I'm hoping to be in band this semester again. I saw my friend Kim at
Target and seeing her and taking about band stuff put the idea in my
head. Plus she told me when it meets, and it is compatible with my
schedule. Yay Kim! Shout-out to you for being cool
Today is January 15. Last time I journaled I forgot to give a birthday
shout-out to my dad, Mike. So happy belated birthday to my pops.
He's 53
This morning I ran some errands. I went to the post office (Welch Avenue
Station) and my friend Mailman was there. This is a guy who would always
come to Hy-Vee for 1/2 price chicken on Tasty Tuesday. He came after
work so he still had his uniform on, that's how I knew he was a mailman.
He told me sometimes at the post office they get mail for the bar Welch
Avenue Station...I guess that means it gets put into their pile or
something. Anyway after I left I remembered I wanted to buy some stamps
out of the machine. So I went back in and I heard him telling one of his
co-workers that I was "his favorite little Hy-Vee girl." So that made me
smile.
Good first day of clarinet choir. There was one song without a
contra-alto part, but it was fun to listen to anyway. The only bad part
is that we don't get out until after 5:30 and that's when the
brown route
bus comes to Friley. So I waited for a
Cardinal and walked
the rest of the way from
Towers.
But then I got home and my first Netflix were here!!! Alicia and I
watched The Emporer's New Groove. I also got a disc of Oz, and Hedwig. Thanks to Jill for
recommending NF. So far, I do too.
Today is January 20. A few minutes
ago, the Jerk Store Called. Apparently they are running out of you.
First week of school went fine. I have a cool group fo CS 309. We (me,
Jen,
Laura, and
Chris) are gonna be a
fembot group or something.
Work was fine. Cheryl (annoying girl) is back from Australia. I'm
pretending I didn't know she worked here before. It's not going very well.
Today is January 22. I walked into CprE 308 and greeted two of my
friends. I said "Hi Tam, Hi Matt."
Then I realized that their names are
almost the reverse of each other. So next time I see them, I'm going to
say:
Aloha, Tam!
Matt, ah, hola.
which will be the world's first trilingual palendromic greeting. I'm
very proud. Matt was telling me about a dream he had where he was in
Lord Of The Rings, and he was Frodo. He was fighting a battle
against giant teddy bears. Then he got hurt, and he said it
actually hurt. And his elf friend healed him, and he felt
better. Then I showed him today's Foxtrot comic and
he thought that was funny. THEN there was a clue in the NYTimes puzzle
that was "Fictional ring bearer," five letters. FRODO. Dig it.
This Explodingdog
reminded me of "Your firearms are useless against them!" from Tommy Boy.
Today is January 23. It's freakin' cold here.
I completed my very first, very challenging
Cpr E 308
lab. We just practiced using UNIX and compiled some programs. Yah.
Yesterday I saw Nancy Walls's
Martha Stewart. It's from the episode with Danny Aiello (ya know
where he keeps asking for Hi-C and turkey) Anyway Danny plays Martha's
cousin who pesters her about being from Jersey, and about her Polish
heritage. She finally flips out and yells "I'm Martha FREAKIN' Stewart!"
and stuff. So I decided that while Ana Gastayer's version is
better (she nails the voice and look, and her crafts and things are
bizarre and surreal), Nancy is better for "flip out and kill people" Martha.
Today is January 29. Here is a story about how I am smarter than the
Scooby Gang.
This all relates to the episode
The
Diabolical Disc Demon. I saw the beginning of the episode where the
weird phantom guy was chasing the songwriter all over the studio. The
songwriter wrote some notes on a piece of paper with the music staff on
it. I thought "That is a message." Then later the Scooby gang came to
the studio and met the rock singer. (The songwriter had "disappeared.")
They introduced some people and one was named "Ace Decade" and I was like
HE'S THE PHANTOM. Since all those letters in his name are note names!
And the songwriter guy had written those notes on the paper. Then I went
to take a shower. When I got back, there was some stupid stuff (I don't
really like Scooby-Doo) and Velma finally figured the music-message thing
out.
On monday there was a fire in Lebaron and so we got to leave 15 minutes
early from Cpr E 308.
The other drummers in band are being nice to me. I think that's cool.
Especially since I am kind of isolated from them, the bells and stuff
being away from the other instruments. There's a fence of chimes
separating us too. So there's some nice ppl there.
And here is the big news. They had the Guy that's protected from
three-inch bees on Conan again last night. I taped it. Max brought his
pet two-inch bee. Then everyone panicked. Some people wanted to shoot
Max or throw bricks at him. Then the two-inch bee landed on Max so the
people threw stuff at him and the band played the song and the guy danced
a lot. I'm convinced Conan decided to bring back the guy that's
protected from 3-inch bees just because of me and my obsession. And the
obsessions of all other good-hearted people on the web. I was so
psyched!! And I've got it on tape baby.
