it's a new year so far a slow news year apparently if you look at the
news page of the land of rach for your news. i am now part of
"generation dean" apparently. ia caucus in the HOUSE! Make some noise
beeyotch. Monday January 19 all eyez on the land between 2 rivaz you
feelin me?
i've been catching up on classic action films that i've never seen due to
being a little girl. so far i've seen lethal weapon and die hard. die
hard was probably the best action movie i've seen, that i remember.
also i had to go back to using better telnet which is teh suck because
UNLIKE NiftyTelnet you have to set the color scheme every time if you
want a color scheme
other than black and white. myself, i prefer a black background with
green text for that cool retro look. but i
got it all figured out with
the Kerberos and the special
line of code to make it work behind a NAT.
Nine is Fine...because I'm a cheap bastard and like all my games that
play on OS9 ;-)
Today is January 14. I went to the Rec today because I am awesome. I
played on some kind of elliptical climber thing, walked some laps on the
track, and other stuff. Then i walked home from the Towers for even more
exercising fun. Right now, i'm watching Final Destination on USA
channel. It's edited of course, but you can totally tell where they cut
the f-words out. I saw it in theaters and remembered liking it even
thought it's pretty sad. Other movies I have seen lately include
The
Warriors (70's NYC gang flick),
Small
Time Crooks (inept heist pic that turns into a morality tale), and of
course Old School.
Chris had never seen it, and I FINALLY was able to get it online without
any excessive drama. Actually I think it came from a pawnshop, which is
kinda cool.
P.S. (added later) I was in Target and I heard this guy tell
another guy he was going to bump some thread on StrangeTalk. Talk about
cheez whiz. I mean, ST is all well and good for ISU but pls don't drag
it into the public ;-)
Today is January 16. Worked out on Thurs and again today. Pretty much
same type of workouts, but today I was brave and used the weight
machines. I think the people on Jeopardy are getting dumber. The
category was "Musicians" and Alex T. played a clip of one of my favorite
tunes "Tijuana Taxi" and the contestants were asked to name the
trumpeter. I yelled "YEAH!" at the Tv, then watched in horror as they
proceeded to guess "count Basie" and "Dizzy Gillespie." I'm talking
duh. Herb Alpert, morons!! Then the kicker was the next question, and
the question was "Who is Yanni?" and of course one of the dopes got that
right. Such a bummer. Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass are seriously
one of my all-time favorite bands. They had such a huge impact on pop
culture and they continue to be heard in tv shows, movies, and
commercials to this day. And also HA co-founded a frickin' record label,
A&M, which had lots of other good artists on it too.
Today is January 19. Happy Iowa Caucus! And a happy one it was indeed.
I started off with the Kucinich
group, then a bunch of us were wooed over to Dean with the promise that
they would give us one delegate. The final tally of delegates: 6 for
Kerry, 4 for Dean, and 3 for Edwards. This one older lady by me was
pissed that she didn't get to vote for Gephardt. I tried to tell her to
go to her 2nd choice. It was a pretty good night, all in all. I talked
to a reporter for an Italian newspaper (she's based out of NYC), got to
hold a baby, and saw lots of my regulars from Hy-Vee =) Also I talked
with Ms. Hodges, the lady of the solar manor. She's very nice. She was
a Dean-via-Kucinich with me and Prof. Hodges.
...and nary an SUV in the parking lot, hahahaha....
Today is January 20. Back to the festival of songs in my head. My brain
wishes to inform you that it is just a
love
machine, and it
won't work for
nobody but you. Also it seems overly concerned with the
Jellicle
cats that will come out tonight. So today was a pretty good day. I
had a scheduling mixup so I worked today from 10-2 instead of going to EE
332. I haven't worked a weekday morning in a long time so it was a nice
change of pace.
Today is January 24. This morning I went to Louie's basketball game at
the Ames Middle School. He plays in the Ames park and rec league, with a
bunch of other North Polk kids. It was a good game; very physical play
and some good shots by both teams. They didn't have a scoreboard going,
but I think Lou's team won.
Chris got Host Explorer for his comp so I can telnet to isua from here.
The good Hummingbird folks thoughtfully made the green-on-black color
scheme for me, possibly by reading my mind. Who knows.
Today is January 26. After I made the update on Saturday I checked my
voicemails (Phony had been shut off overnight) and found a bunch of
messages from work, saying I was late and stuff. The last message was
Mathis finally admitting that I didn't work that day and that he had been
looking at the wrong schedule. So that's kind of a sign I've been
working there too long. I get calls on my day off telling me to come
in. Apparently, at about 7:30 Cheryl said, I don't think she works
today, so he checked the schedule again, and sure enough, Rachel has the
day off.
Today I went to my first senior design team mtg. of the term, and
afterwards was thinking about how Lamont would be happier if he was a
high school football coach and shop teacher. He could teach the
newfangled kind of shop with CAD drawing and stuff like that. Maybe he
would make that horrible facial expression less if he was a HS FB coach
and not a senior design advisor.
