Today is January 10. Update comin atcha from work. Sorry it took me so long to get this one up.

Friday the 7th I helped Chris move to Muscatine for his new job. You can view the pictures on my dot Mac photo site. We even ate at the original Maid-Rite in Muscatine. Here are some people's memories of the sammiches. For me, it was going to the one on the North Grand mall with Mom and Jonno, ordering cheese balls with our meal, playing a song on the bubble juke box.

So today's topic is which is the better song, Southern Man by Neil Young, or Lynrd Skynrd's response, Sweet Home Alabama. To me the answer is simple. Which one are you completely sick and tired of? Unless you had a roommate or brother who played Neil Young all the time, it would be the Skynrd tune.

Today is January 12. I am the proud mommy of an iMac G3. Yes you read that right. Graphite in color, just like his/her big brother Swoop. Obviously since no gender, no name yet either. I am accepting suggestions. Graphy? Pencil? OldSchool? Perhaps Grimlock, to continue with the Dinobots theme.

So this is a really funny ad that David sent me. I laughed and laughed. In further news of cool stuff, here is a pineapple clock. Actually it is the pineapple clock of my dreams, the one from my wish list. Also checked off the list - red hoodie, door pulls, one of the Hello Kittys.

P.S. Jill Jill Jill! (Say in voice of Rick Rick Rick!)

Today is January 13. Happy Birthday Mike (Dad). Pretty good day at work. We had a big bad meeting that emphasized things like "giving a care." Then I went to a meetup dinner event at the "Olympic Flame" restaurant. It was delish.

I've been obsessively singing "Weekend (Party Party Party)" from sbemail 117. I don't know if that's the official song title or not, but that's what I call it on the jukebox in my head. Plus I think if you hear it, you will agree that it needs to have parenthesis. A la "(I Just) Died in Your Arms Tonight." Be warned, it *is* catchy. The other songs in the email are good too.

That reminds me. Why the crap wasn't that sketch with the singers on either of the Will Ferell Best-Of Volumes? My guess, probably something to do with getting the rights to the music. Which is, let's face it, really unfair to me.

Today is January 15, early Saturday morning. I wanted to write a quick entry on how cool my friend Jonathan from work is. Today we went to lunch together so we got a chance to really talk, which was nice. He mentioned that at one point he was considering magic for a career. Then later on we were behind the cashwrap and I asked him what his stage name was. He said he didn't have one, mostly since "The Amazing Jonathan" was taken. I said "What about The Amazing Rando?" and he was all like "He came out of the east...to do battle with The Amazing Rando!!" So we high-fived and kept quoting lines from MST3K. (Hope you slept well, cuz it's time to die! Are you boys cooking up there? No. Are you making an interocitor? No-oo!) So that was really fun. Now I think I should go to bed and watch that movie.

Also I wanted to mention that I saw Conor Oberst on Austin City Limits on channel 11. This was more 'n a little strange. But some good tunes for me to watch while channel surfing away from Conan. Speaking of music, for some reason I've been singing Garth Brooks tunes to myself. Went on iTunes to maybe grab a few, but there were no Garth tunes to be found. That's a shame. I don't really care for country music but ever since my brother bought Ropin' the Wind I've been a Garth fan. I remember when he participated in the KISS cover album with "Hard Luck Woman." Good track. Like The Donnas take on "Strutter," I enjoy it better than the original (sorry guys).

Who wnts to see my mom's perfect eBay feedback rating? I made a screengrab in case it expires some day.

Today is January 16.

Songs performed by me, Rachel Hadaway, at Gene's Sportsbar in Des Moines, IA on Saturday night
  1. " Hold On Loosely" - .38 Special
  2. " Don't Stop Believin'" - Journey
  3. " Magic Man" - Heart
  4. " Surrender" - Cheap Trick
Songs I wanted to sing but that they didn't have
  1. " Sister Christian" - Night Ranger side note this was especially disappointing considering they had some other night Ranger song
  2. " Disco Inferno" - The Trammps
  3. " All Out Of Love" - Air Supply cuz I like the song, and also in honor of Conan
Full report of the evening later.

Today is January 19. I love having a day off because I can be a huge bum. So VH1 made another I Love the 90's. I did not know this until reading Tavie because I don't get cable anymore. I actually think it's good that they made another one. I felt that the first run through of the 90's was all about stupid scandals. Instead of what it should have been about, really dumb trends. So hopefully I can get a chance to tape the episodes, or if someone gets torrents up.

Today is January 23 and our topic for today is "It's too hot to work." The heat in this place is busted and stuck on " real real hot." We have the doors open to the back hallway to try to get some air moving but no luck. We have yet to get a straight answer out of the heating/cooling people either.

Today is January 24. I think a really cool name for a punk band would be Underage Kids Drinking Beer Without A Permit. Mr. Plow was enough of a success; it's time to take Simpsons references to another level. And we all know the names for my imaginary cover bands: Maryann Walking Away (Boston), Oh Sherrie and the Wheels in the Sky (Journey), Corporate Rock Will Never Die (70s/80s), The New Tijuana Brass featuring Rachel. Tim created my rap name: MC Raquel Rockwell (my DJ would be DJ Stupid....to introduce him/her I would yell "it's time to get stupid!").

Conan has Mark Cuban on for a guest. The only reason I remotely like this guy is from that time that someone said they wouldn't hire him to manage a Dairy Queen, and then he went and worked at a Dairy Queen for a day. (Ok after some fact-checking by me it turns out that Mark was the one who said the other guy couldn't run the DQ.) But it's a good story either way, especially the part where he wanted to wear a nametag that said "Tony." And he's better loooking than Trump.

Oh, I almost forgot. meet Spicey! Yes that's the same type of cat as on The Cat From Outer Space. Yes they're supposed to look like that. Yes I'm awesome! Did you know I said that at work, when one of my colleagues asked me if I would like answer the phone or something. The customer I was working with laughed.

Today is January 31. Saturday night we went back go Gene's, where I sang "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner (badly) and "Rock'n Me" by the Steve Miller Band (actually pretty well). I wore my sweet shirt from Subcultural and people kept asking where I got it and I felt like such a snob saying "some website."

In other news, calypso was tearing ass around the apartment b/c he got a plastic bag stuck around his neck. By the time I got him coralled and could get the bag off (he decided to stop and rest in the bathroom, between the shower curtain and liner) I noticed he had an owie on his nose. I don't think it's bothering him very much though. So hopefully it won't get stupid infected or anything.

Also I ordered the pineapple curtain rod and the little side holder things. I got some plain lavender curtains to go with, to match my comforter with the sage green and lavender color scheme.
