Force Today is February 3. Saturday after work, I drove to
Blair and spent some time with Chris. We went to a
mall in Omaha that night, then
the
next day we saw Steven
Wright at the Orpheum in Sioux
City. It was a great show.
This morning I got to drive home, racing the snow storm all the way.
(I won). I got back to Ames about 10:30 and it didn't really start
snowing until 12:30 or so. Then it snowed REALLY REALLY hard and I
had to go to work at 4. Cheryl and Josh worked with me. It was a
pretty good day at work.
Today is February 10. Sorry for the week-long lag between posts. Friday
I traveled to Blair again and spent the weekend with Chris. Sunday was
our one-year anniversary of dating. Whee! We went to the Old Market
section of Omaha on Saturday. It is a very funky, cool area. I bought
some more Doonesbury books for the collection at this used book store
called the Antiquarium.
I'm pretty sure the staff was
comprised mostly
of hobos. I thought that was pretty cool. So the next time I am
complaining about can-collecting people and someone says, "Well, what
have you ever done to help the hobos?" I can say, I bought BOOKS from
them =0)
Sunday Chris made grands cinnamon rolls. We went back to Omaha, but on
the way there we made a wrong turn at Albuquerque (actually, where 30 and
133 diverge) so we got a little tour of Nebraska. We went to a Target
because Chris wanted to look for OZ on DVD. (Very good prison drama show
or as Aaron says, an erotic comedy). They didn't have it, but I was
finally able to find a KITTY in the valentine's day plush assortment.
Every other place I looked only had bears, gorillas, and various dogs.
But I found a little cat to give Chris so I was happy.
Now I'm going to give you some lists. For two reasons.
- This page has been sorely lacking in content lately
- Jill
has been doing some cool lists in the past few entries
Five. That's kind of a high number for me. Woo.
Characters That Failed In Their Attempts To Impress Others By
Jumping
- George Costanza, "The Jimmy," Seinfeld
George wears special weighted shoes to
improve his vertical leap but neglects to take them off when he wants to
demonstrate how high he can jump.
- Inignot, "The Moononites," Aqua Teen
Hunger Force. Inignot wants to show Fryloc how advanced the culture
is on the moon by demonstrating how high he can jump. Of course, he's
not all that impressive as the gravity is much higher on earth.
I hope you have enjoyed these lists.
As I was finding the above links to enhance my lists, I learned that The
Donnas will be in Iowa City a week from today. I'm guessing I will have
to work, especially since I had this Monday off. Maybe I'll wait and
catch them on the State Fair circuit in about 20 years. Here is a funny Tavie
quote. if the link doesn't work, just scroll to where she's talking
about Gatorade brand gum.
Today is February 11. Today I wore both pairs of new pants. The jeans I
just wore around and the khakis I wore to the Career Fair. A marvelous
haul of free stuff, and I talked to a guy from the Iowa Department of
Transportation about maps. He said I could be a "design technician"
which is someone who works on maps but it is not as high level a position
in maps as I could have had, if I would have been a civil E. So that's a
good trade-off, I guess =)
I have Van
Halen songs stuck in my head. "Thought you'd never miss
me 'till I got a fat city address.....non-stop talker, what a rocker,
blue-eyed murder in a size-five dress..."
Today is February 12. Dad and I went to Applebee's for dinner. We
talked about a lot of random stuff and then when he brought me home he
wanted me to look something up on the web. He wanted to find where he
could get Pioneer merchandise such
as hats, coats, etc. I searched on their site, used Google, and got
nothing.
Try as I might, I couldn't find the right page. I felt like a failure
=( But I guess he has the right address written out somewhere at (his)
home so it's not a huge deal. It's just that usually I can find stuff on
the web!
In brighter news, the trip to California for Ryann and Gehan's wedding is
one step closer. I used Orbitz to
look for airfares. Good site. I even managed to find one where we don't
have to get off and switch planes in Denver. Score!
Today is February 13. Spent an inordinate
amount of time on cpre 308 lab
today. (remember how I was bragging about it being an easy lab. clearly
I see now that was a one-time deal). I did finally get it done with
the help of a TA from another section. I'm sort of in a "group" with
Jesse and Brian. We can work together, but I have to write my own report
since there can only be 2 in a group. Which kind of sucks but I don't
mind writing the reports anyway, as long as I can work with someone.
Today in band there was a scuffle over the "good" bells. I don't think
it's too much to ask that I get to use them once a week. Orchestra
rehearses at the same time as us (well they are at 4pm every day, we're
from 4-5:30 2 days a week). I tried to hide them but they were
persistent bastards and finally I ended up yelling at this guy, who
didn't even seem to care (arrogant jackass!). Then later they came and
took the good bells anyway, while I was talking to Kim. Since I was
somewhat calmed down by this time, I decided to give up. Then later
after band, a nice girl from the orchestra (Dara?) came by and apologized
for their behavior and said I could use the bells (since she's the one
that plays bells in orchestra anyway) and if they give me any crap to
say that she said it was ok. So things turned out fine in the end.
Tomorrow I hafta get up bright-and-early to go to 483 lab so I can get
last week's and this week's done. AIIEE!! In other news I gave Faith
some "Virgin/Slut Lip balm" from blue
Q which comes with 2 pots of lip balm, a red one for Slut and a
powder blue one for virgin. I thought it was a funny product, and a
good gift for miss HFS. I think she liked it.
Today is February 14. Happy Valentine's Day to all. (So for those of
you that were wondering, "When *is* Valentine's Day this year?" now you
know. Inside joke of my mom, brother, and me. ;-)
So I was watching Late Night With
Conan O'Brien last night, and in addition to the super-sexy spa
stuff, he was mentioning a future (or perhaps alien, I sorta forget) world
that was ruled
by Emporer Quang. I thought that was really funny since I have a friend
called Quang. I don't think he would make the best emporer for a future
world because he would constantly be hitting on hot future chicks.
Heh.
Today is February 16. Friday Night to Saturday morning we got a lot of
snow. Des Moines got over a foot; Ames probably 5 to 6 inches. Chris
and I stayed in and watched OZ episodes. Then on Saturday we went to
Target and Chris bought a GameCube. We played Animal Crossing. It's
pretty fun.
Today I'm at work. It's been a fun day so far. Andy and I were
brainstorming foods that would be appropriate to serve at a "Simpsons"
party (a la the Seinfeld party I threw for the last episode...we had
pizza bagels, soup, jujy fruits, junior mints, marble rye bread, and
acalzones.) For the Simpsons, we thought of things like Ned Flanders
2-alarm chili, Uncle Moe's birthday fries, pork chops with apple sauce,
and of course Donuts. Wow, Chris just walked into the breakroom!!!
Today is February 17. I'm kind of getting a
sore throat. Animal
Crossing rules. If you want to send me stuff (I really need a pear) send
it to Rachel in Westgate. (Yes I named my town after a small dorm soon to
be demolished. Its legacy must live on!)
"Pour some shook-up Ramen." This line comes from some lameass cell phone
commercial with Oscar nominee Cathy Z-J. It's a dumb commercial but I
have a soft spot for misheard
lyrics. For the record, I also like it when Ozzy says "You're a
bunch of bloody magicians," to his children in the Pepsi ad. It makes me
wonder how many takes he needed to get it right. Sort of like when Mark
Borchart from American Movie
makes his uncle Bill say "It's alright, it's okay, there's something to
LIVE for, Jesus TOLD me so!"
Today is February 18. Coco
Piña! A delicious snack cookie thing I bought at Hy-Vee
yesterday but didn't sample until today. I'm writing the company a
letter to tell them how much I, as a pineapple freak, like Coco
Piñas. Happy.
Today is February 19. We took a quiz in Cpr E 308 today which
pretty much sucked. I got an e-mail that said they are getting rid of EasyVincent.
I don't use any of its features on a regular basis; to check my mail, I just type "inc," "show," "next," and "rmm"
as needed. I will still be able to do that, I'm just bummed because
EasyVincent makes it much easier to do other activities (put mail into
folders, delete old mail, etc). But I'm a fighter, so I'll be okay. I
just don't know what John VINCENT Atanasoff will think.
Today is February 20. I was going to skip my Family Diversity class to
study for com Sci, but I went anyway. I was glad because we had a quiz!
I had done almost all of the readings so it went pretty easy. Then I had
some time left over to prepare more for com sci test. Things have a way
of working out like that when you take a little time to put some good
into the world the week before (like trading people stuff from the
vending machine if they push the wrong buttons by mistake)
I am Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force!!
Which Aqua
Teen Hunger Force character are you??
Today is February 24. Overrated whispery
singing triumphed over whiny overrated wannabe punk at last night's Grammy
awards. When I heard the
nominations weeks ago, I made a claim that if Avril Lavigne(sp? not that
I care) won any Grammy awards I would quit buying music from major
labels. (One Grammy = one year of no buying from the majors, and up from
there). I guess I can go out and finally buy Led Zeppelin I now.
On a side note, did anyone watch the Grammy Awards? Do you know if
anyone gave a tribute to the people at the Rhode Island nightclub
fire? Because they
should have, since the people were at the nightclub to hear music, so it
would be appropriate. I'm all for tributes, if they're appropriate.
Today is February
27, just after midnight. I just got "The Big
California Trip" all booked via Orbitz. Chris and I leave Omaha at 7:20
thursday the 20th of March and return sunday the 23rd. We're staying at
the hotel where Ryann and Gehan got a group rate (but we got a better
deal than the group rate even, weird). Rental car places suck ass so
they are charging me 10 bucks more per day just for being a child of the
80's. But it's still a good deal.
Clarinet Choir went fine. Afterwards, Dad and I went to The Broiler for
dinner. Then I came home and talked to my Aunt Rose about how Grandma
Hazel's surgery went. Gma had a triple bypass Wednesday morning. Based
on what Rose said, they are probably bringing her out of sedation right
about now. They had to keep her under sedation so plaque from the
arteries wouldn't give her a stroke (something like that). So if you
love Grandma Hazel (with her distinctive green umbrella) be thinking of
her, say a prayer, give a shout-out, whatever. I told my fellow
clarinetists about how Gma Hazel wasn't going to be there and that I
wanted to dedicate the performance to her. They said that was OK. I was
glad. Then another girl hooked me up with a recording guy so I could get
a video tape of the concert. I thought that was nice of her.
Still February 27, but now almost 4 pm. I have that Queens of the Stone
Age song stuck in my head. And now you all do too, ha ha.
Hey, today is February 28. Last day o'the month. I finally watched
"Stop Making Sense," the Talking Heads concert film. I say "finally"
because it was one of the first three Netflix that I received when I first
joined. I don't know why it took me so long to watch it all the way
through. Anyway, it was a good film. Great tunes, interesting visuals,
and it re-inforced Lisa's
claim of
"Nerds of note include David Byrne..." Yes he was flipping and spazzing
and dancing and singing and just plain ROCKING. But through it all,
nerd.
