Rapist coming. Don't get raped
mood:   weird
Today is February 27. Is it wrong that the first thing I thought of when I heard of South Dakota's near-ban on abortion was the Mr. Show skit about the Rapist Warning? Jay walking around behind Bob, all wearing a sandwich board and shouting through the megaphone. So no one in Sow Dako get raped or you may have to have a baby. Or drive to Minnesota or something.

The other thing I wanted to mention is of a lighter tone. It is quite possibly the best thing ever. It is the new Fatboy Slim video. I donna wanna say any more than that, just clicky. Thanks to Jill who sent me the link while we were IM'ing. I quickly dubbed it the best thing ever, and she seems to agree.

If anyone yells "Freebird" I will peck their eyes out
mood:   relaxed
Today is February 20. I paid some bills today but I think it is Presidents' Day so they will not go out until tomorrow. But at least they are in the mailbox and I think only one of them was past due (phonebill said it was due the 19th so hopefully close enough)

I decided to make a music project for Lucky Bird in case he ever wants to start a podcast in addition to his blog site. Mostly it was inspired by looking at the cover of Bella Donna and then thinking about other albums with birds on them. Also notable that Bella Donna contains the song "Edge of Seventeen" with the memorable lyric about a white-winged dove. I was pretty sure there was a Santana album with a guy holding a bird, and it is their Greatest Hits disc, from 74. Little Feat had a song called "Dixie Chicken" but a bird did not alight on one of their sleeves until the Neon Park-designed duck on 79's Down on the Farm (Neon Park I guess is the Roger Dean of Little Feat, and he painted a lot of ducks. If you paint a sexy duck, does that make you a furry? A feather-y?) And of course with any discussion of birds on album covers, we cannot forget Fly By Night. And even with flying, so there you go. I'm gonna go look in my "100 Best Album Covers" book to see if I can find some more birds. Laters.

Meow Down Before The One You Purr
mood:   sore
Today is February 17. Went to see NIN last night with Molly at Wells Fargo Arena. Was supposed to be with Jess and her friend Kyle too, but due to circumstances we did not all 4 meet up. (Fun fact: there is a Wells Fargo Arena in Phoenix, AZ--prior residence of Molly--as in DSM) At the risk of hyperbole, it was probably the most powerful experience I have ever had at a concert. "Hurt" literallly moved me to tears. I know I've heard that song before, it was just like with all the people there, and the energey/emotion....I think it was the line "If I could start again/a million miles away/I would keep myself/I would find a way" that really got to me.

We were on the floor but sort of stayed to the back - near where the sound boards were set up, but off to the left side. Today I downloaded "Live: And All That Could Have Been" from iTMS - 5.99! Can't beat that. And, no, the "sore" in the mood field isn't laziness in forgetting to change it from the last entry, it's an accurate description of my neck after headbanging. Er, maybe not headbanging, but severe rocking out and dancing.

Lately I'm getting into all these bands that became big when I was in junior high and high school, and I'm completely wishing that I would have been into them back then!! Particularly Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, and now NIN. On the bright side, it is never really 'too late' to start liking a group, other than not being able to see them live in concert, in some cases. The albums are there as a permanent thing and you can experience it in your own time, whether that happens to be 94 or 06.

Weekend of Destiny
mood:   sore
Today is February 11. We are smack in the middle of the "weekend off." There is always a lot of pressure to enjoy it and do something fun since you know that for the next seven days you will not get a moment's peace. Today I cooked some food and worked on "The Big 1981 Project." (Jess don't click unless you want to spoil the surprise :-p) Also I worked out some more too (hence the sore). Actually the day started with me waking up wayyyyyy to early, courtesy of C-po, re-watching 3 of the 4 AD episodes, then going back to sleep ;-)

Rt now I am watching some episodes of Undeclared. One of the girl characters (ironically, the not-named-Rachel one) scurried up to Seth Rogen's character with a big smile on her face, and he was all "Did you see a kitty, or find a sticker on the ground or something?" Actually my favorite guy on this show is
Timm Sharp. I just watched a movie he was in called Stark Raving Mad which is (to use a really lame clicé) Ocean's 11 on E. It was a really unique movie with a great cast. I just realized that Sharp and his co-star Seann William Scott could start like the extra-consonant peoples clique. Samm Levine I guess had to add the extra 'm' for joining the actor's guild or something. Chadd with the 2 d's somehow seems like a porn star, but I swear I have seen someone with that name too. So everyone go out and fine some more people with extra consonant names. Because making lists is the BEST!

In your eyes, the light, the heat
mood:   silly
Today is February 8. I was looking on the iTunes Music Store, and I was a little disappointed to see the Sharon Stone playlist. Not because I have anything against her, but just because of how much funnier it would have been if it was Amy Poehler as Sharon Stone. "This song is wonnnnnderful" etc. But then I noticed that iTMS *does* have Michael Scott's Valentine's Day Romantic Playlist so that was neat. And like my February 5 entry, it mentions both "My Humps" and "Faithfully." I think the world is falling apart. If one other source mentions those two songs, I seriously think it will cause a rip in the space-time continuum.

On my other computer, I can actually hear Journey playing. The song is "Stay Awhile," off Departure, and there's no reason why it couldn't be as big of a deal power ballad/lovesong as "Open Arms" or "Faithfully." For reals.
I'd do anything to hold you
I'd go anywhere to touch you
I'd do anything you want me to
If you'll just stay with me awhile
I'd sing any song your heart desires
I would sing out loud of love's sweet fires
Oh, I'd do all this and so much more
If you'll just stay with me awhile
Reach out your hands, oh to me. Oh I'm fallin'
One minute more I'm falling. I'm falling.
Falling (x4)
Won't you just stay with me awhile
Another song that should also be more beloved is "Sweet and Simple," from Evolution. The lyrics to that one will be left as an exercise for the reader. To further illustrate S&S's awesomeness, I will say that it caused C-po to leap up on the couch and snuggle up by me.

Go football!
mood:   relaxed
Today is February 5. Friday night Molly and I went to karaoke again at Billy Joe's. Shawn joined us for part of the time, so that was cool. I sang "Tempted" by Squeeze, and "Faithfully" by Journey (since they don't have Don't Stop Believin' I had to pick another Journey song). In between the singers the DJ played random hip hop and pop songs. Me and Molly pretty much flipped out when "My Humps" came on since we HATE that song (but still like the beat, and dancing to it). And then when he played "Hollaback Girl" I tried to sing the version I made for the Back-of-House Girl (or as much of it as I could remember).

Today was a pretty easy day at work, which was nice for a Sunday. Usually we get our asses handed to us both Saturday and Sunday, but today due to el fútbol americano, there were far less peoples in the store. After work I came home and made some shells and cheese. I've got a nice kitty sort of laying on me and the armrest. Watched a little bit of the game, a re-run of Family Guy, now just clicked over to NBC to see DJ Qualls (Fictional Taurus owner from Road Trip) apparently in one of the Lawn Order spinoffs. OK, another dude just got crushed by a vending machine. HH - Death Death
