. Today is April 2. I'm watching an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 courtesy of my good friend Joe . The movie they are screening this episode is called "The Final Justice" and it has Joe Don Baker from Mitchell!
It's just another blah week I guess, although I do have a lovely clarinet choir concert Wednesday at 5:20 p.m. You're all invited.
I found a keyboard in the pile of junk behind Black Engineering. There's always interesting garbage there. I don't really know what I can do with it; obviously it's not ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) compatible. I pried the ? key off of it, but it won't fit into my keyboard (yeah
Larry lost his ? key somehow...)
New trick for staying awake during class: knitting.
Also make sure to see the new cartoon dolls on the
main page. It's a pixel-by-pixel rendering of Chris and me. Isn't he cute?

Today is April 4. I'm really disappointed in my hair. (more later...it's 9 AM and I'm supposed to be getting ready for class. I'm brushing my hair and reading blogs. My hair is tangly, and it seems not to grow anymore. So every time I cut it, to get rid of the split ends, it just *stays* that short, and never makes any attempt to grow back. Just sits there generating more split ends. Lovely.)

Today is April 5. I should be in a dark corner somewhere, in mourning. I wish I knew someone who would help me say the Kaddish. It is a prayer in the Jewish faith they say every year after a loved one has passed away. Perhaps I will invent my own Lutheran-Kaddish. A Kringle-Kaddish. Yeah.
But actually it's been a pretty good day so far. Got into Math 301 which I will be taking with my boy, Chris. Came to EE 201 Lab and Shawn and I were very productive. Shawn or "soul-puncher" is a really cool lab partner, although when I screw up he will often blurt out "You're fired!" Not to mention his constant threats to eat the soul of anyone who vexes him ;-) Also my blog pal
Tavie mentioned Rush in an entry, and that made me really happy.
Tonight my plan is to hang out with my good friend and future roommate,
Alicia. Oh speaking of roommates, I am going straight to hell, because last night I wanted to weasel out of something so I called the person in charge pretending to be "Rachel's roommate." It was funny.

Today is April 8. Happy Birthday Eliza Reynolds, wherever you are. I wrote a song about this very topic 2 years ago; I'll see if I can dig it up and add it to my songs page.
Right now I'm listening to "Fugue for Tinhorns" from Guys and Dolls. Friday in Symphonic band I learned what a fugue is. It's where one voice (instrument, singer, whatever) begins with a theme, and the others come in in turn, singing/playing the same theme. And of course "I got the horse right here, the name is Paul Revere..." "I'm picking Valentine, cause on the morning line..." "But don't get Epitaph, he wins it by a half..." is a PERFECT example of this.
Chris sent me daffodils yesterday at work. And I considered the daffodil. And while I was doing that, he was going through my stuff. (

Today is April 13. Good day at work today; it went pretty fast and we were all acting a little silly. Randy even joined in on a rendition of "Summer Nights" from Grease. That was funny.
Last night, Chris and I went over to Jon and Sarah's and played games. We played "Cell Damage" on the GameCube, and I got to be a gangster duck. Then Jon helped me move into their neighborhood in The Sims. It was fun building the house, and then entertaining other sims with hand puppets. For some reason.
Right now, I'm hanging in 106B with my honey. He's the best. I'm pleasing him with my knowledge of random UNIX commands. We even found a new one; leave. You can type in when you want to leave, and it will automatically log you off when you said you wanted to leave.

Today is April 15. Got a Com Sci homework turned in on time, running exactly right, and well-commented. For the first time in weeks. It is exciting!
I tend to remember things as being better than they actually were. I wonder if this is human nature, or a disfunction.
Speaking of disfunction. I have this speech thing where sometimes, after speaking some words aloud, I will mouth them silently immediately afterwards. As far as I know, I have done this ever since I learned to speak. I do not do it all the time, just occasionally. My mother noticed this trait in my speech at a young age, but I do not believe it alarmed her since my dad does the same thing, also occasionally. I do not believe it is related to stuttering, since it is not something I do when I am nervous ; rather, it happens at random times in conversation. Lately I noticed that I was doing it around Chris. I started thinking that my mom probably didn't think it was weird that her child repeated words silently after speaking them aloud, since her husband di d the same thing. But I bet if she had never heard of such a thing, it would have weirded her out when her firstborn began mouthing words after speaking them. No matter how rarely it occured. I wonder if this behavior has a name, if it is considered a disorder, and how many people have it. It really hasn't caused me any difficulty in life, or at least no one except my mother has ever noticed me doing it enough to make fun of me and thus cause difficulty.
Just one of those weird little things about me. Like my hyperactive salivary glands and the giant birthmark on my back.

Today is April 16. It's freaking hot here. I have both fans on and the windows open and I'm still stifled beyond belief. Perhaps after this posting, Larry will get a well-deserved rest and thus stop kicking out massive amounts of heat.
I'm rocking the suburbs...actually I don't believe I've ever spent much time in a suburb. Not a residential area, certainly. The suburbs of Des Moines do offer fine shopping though. Hey, something just occured to me. In the video for "Rockin' the Suburbs, " the genial Mr. Folds wears a Rush T-shirt with the man-in-star logo. And Rush, of course, have the kickass tune "Subdivisions." Dig it.
Rush: They were geek rock before geek rock was cool.

Today is April 17. About five minutes ago, a Kawasaki-type motorbike crashed into a car pulling out from behind the Student Health center. There was a terrific smashing sound and then it was deadly silent. Soon DPS came with their sirens, followed by a fire truck. Then just a minute later, Chris took a chunk out of his face while shaving. It's like a freakin' Bermuda Triangle around here or something.

Today is April 21. Happy belated birthday Jason B. Hope he had a good one, up there in Minne-soda.
Good weekend round here. Went shopping Friday. I had reached the point in my life where I decided to say "fuck it" and go to Lane Bryant. I bought some nice shorts there that actually fit me. Woohoo! At JC Penney, Chris bought some shorts as well, and I got some pineapple pajama pants. So now I can have an entire outfit of pineapple (except for undies, hehe). I have a t-shirt, 3 Hawaiian-type shirts, the Rowe shirt with the big pineapple on the back, these pants, a bra from Joe Boxer, a pretty "silk" scarf, slippers (eBay), shoes (outlet mall in AZ), and socks from Rue 21.
Chris and I made circle pizzas for dinner tonight. Circle pizzas are pizzas made from refrigerator biscuits, Easy Squeeze pizza sauce, and mozzerella cheese. It is an old family recipe from CUMC Preschool.
Go Blues!!! Yeah the playoffs are here again and my Blues are rockin' the Western Conference Semi-finals, against midwest rivals the Chicago BlackHawks.
Grandma Hazel came by the deli today and gave me some photos she had taken of Chris and me. Perhaps tomorrow I can convince
Matt to scan them for you/me/us.

Today is April 24. Yesterday, Chris and I had a fun adventure to Des Moines for Transformers DVD Tuesday. The lesson is, always call ahead. We went to the West Des Moines Best Buy store, only to discover that they were sold out of the aforementioned product, a 4-disc set of the first season of Transformers. So we quickly phoned the other store where the DVD-VHS section lady told us there was one copy left, and she couldn't hold it for us. So we high-tailed it over to the SE 14th Street location, foregoing plans to stop at CompUSA and/or Half-Price Books. Once inside, Chris and I searched high and low for the box set, and when we couldn't find it we asked the clerk. She inferred, correctly, that we were the same people who had called before, and guided us right to it. She had even turned the DVD around so that we would have a better shot at getting it. That made me happy.

Today is April 29. Concert went well yesterday. I played the "hard" stuff, that I was all worried about (West Side Story, Movement 3 of Kentucky Harmony) just fine and perfectly. The only thing I really messed up on was like I just didn't play things, like a gong hit or a triangle whack. Weird, eh?
Here are the things I have to do, before Tuesday at 2 pm.

. Then there's the stuff I don't really HAVE to do, but it taunts me, saying "come on, clean your room! It's fun! And much easier than homework!" And as for moving home in less than 2 weeks. I look around at all the crap here and cannot imagine it fitting into any finite number of chicken boxes. (Chicken boxes are the boxes I use for moving. In the deli, our fried chicken comes in boxes, 4 bags/box, 24 pieces/bag. So they're pretty good sized boxes).
So right now, I'm watching the Weather Channel (the only TV I will allow myself to have on, as it is hopefully the least distracting) and writing this journal entry for you people. It's gonna be an interesting couple of days.

Today is April 30. OHMYGOD OHMYGOD!!! RUSH ARE COMING TO AMES!!! I'm seriously hyperventilating and clasping my hands to my face now.
I saw this morning on the VH1 news ticker thingy that Geddy, Alex, and Neil had extended their tour dates, but I figured it was just a bunch of California towns and stuff. I checked it anyway, just out of curiosity. According to
Power Windows, they will be In. Ames. On. November. First. I cannot wait.
So now I gotta decide where/when/if I will go see them this summer too. Chicago is on a weekend, but Kansas City is way closer. It's all too much, really, really it is!!!! It almost makes this crap hole of a day worthwhile. And yet another reason (the primary ones being Chris, and my dad & brother) not to off myself!! Yay!
Well back to crap. One hour until I seal my fate with the Cpre 211 lab final. Then off to the Dave Matthews Band concert with Chris. And I suppose I'll look around Hilton and exclaim every five seconds "Rush are going to be here....in this very building.. ..see that cord? Geddy's going to use that cord." And such nonsense
