A week's worth of puzzle printouts

Today is April 28. A week's worth of puzzle printouts are your friend when you wake up and there is nothing to do. So far there has been an item of interest to me in each one I've completed. In Monday's, 32 Across was "Des Moines Native" = IOWAN and on Tuesday, 63 Across was "How the confident solve" = INPEN. Now I will freely admit I am not a Des Moines native but I am a current Des Moiner so I say that counts. As for In Pen, well, I took a bit of guff for that last week when I met *another* NYTimes puzzle fan. At my first temp assignment for MEHC there was a gal in my area who spied my spiralbound dayplanner of Sunday puzzles from 05 and we had a good discussion. I even photocopied one for her to do. She was a pencil person, herself, and couldn't believe I used pen. For me, it doesn't have as much to do with confidence as I just like the way the pen feels on the paper. I prefer to use red when I can because I think it stands out nicely.

What else is up? Last weekend I went to Omaha to visit Brent. We made it to the ATHF movie, which was a blast. Also did some used-media shopping, and I found a really cool Van Book! Yay! We went to a kick-awesome record store on Maple, and I felt like I barely scratched the surface of what they had in their bins. I did manage to find quite a few good selections, though, both fer listening and fer crafts.

I had a cubicle and It Was Okay

Today is April 16. Thursday I started a temp job downtown. I work for MidAmerican Energy Holding Company, in the Ruan building. It's all very hush-hush. I work with some really nice people and the project seems to be going well. It's data entry but it requires some independent thought and using your head. Oh and I even got to do a Simpsons quote, yay me. We were creating new employee numbers for some workers, and since they were from a different division we got to start over at x00001, and it reminded me of Mr. Burns's Social Security number. Actually, my Simpsons quote-of-the-moment is "But stupid babies need the most attention!" Although I usually say "...need the most *love*" since that's how my brain remembered it from the episode.

Hrm, what else. Oh. buy me this? That would be all sorts of thoughtful. Or maybe find me a shiny new career where my awesomeness could be exchanged for a decent salary.

Dracula: Unemployed and Loving It

Today is April 9. I have actually applied for a couple jobs so "nyeah." To follow up from 4/6, I will tell you a story. In first grade art class, our teacher gave us an assignment to find and press some nice leaves. Like where you get a leaf and put some waxed paper over it and then fold it up in a big dictionary and then it's a pressed leaf. On the day we were supposed to bring them in, our art teacher, Mrs. Kuykendall, asked "Does everybody have their pressed leaves?" This kid Kevin shouted back, "Yeah, we got our Lee Press-on Nails." This absolutely slayed the entire class, and continues to amuse me to this day. I can remember seeing ads for Lee Press-on Nails, and wondering why a jeans company had branched out to makeup. I don't know what you'd call it though, it's not quite a spoonerism, and it really isn't a pun. Just words that sound like other words, I guess.

I think of things and then I type them

Today is April 7. I looked up Squeak's exact quote from BASEketball, and he actually said "12 or 13 more times" but I'm going to leave yesterday's title the way it is, because it's more pathetic that way. (like me)

So........I don't think I should have any problems passing that test. It goes down 4/13/07 and then afterwards I'm hoping to find some people to check out ATHF:MFFT

I swear, you guys rip on me 20 or 30 more times, I'm outta here!

Today is April 6. Yesterday is trying to start some shit and make me feel sad but guess what yesterday, I ain't having it. Never mind the fact that I can't remember how her voice sounded.....gee how awesome is that? I guess I'll have to go home and ::rummage, rummage:: through stuff in search of home vid-yas. I haven't cried about her in a long time, and I have that sense of needing "a good cry." (Goes off to listen to "For Martha")

Time off is going pretty well. I moved my coffee table and busted out the yogatapes, been having some fun with that. And just like the Fancy Feast commersh where the white longhairded key comes to nuzzle the lady while she's yoga-ing, C-po generally tries to "say hello" while I am in one posture or another. Luckily it's not like aerobics where I have to worry about stepping on/kicking him. My brother's 6th grade teacher told his class a story about the time his daughter Greta was jumping rope and she stepped on her kitten, and it squeaked. Jonno had Mr. B for homeroom; I just had him for science. He was pretty much the coolest. When we learned about radios, he told us this story of the football team's headsets accidentally picking up CB signals from the truckers on I-35. "Sure, we'll call some plays, good buddy!" I guess it's just my crazy memory in action, but in addition to the ever-popular movie and tv qutoes, I also have many "real people" quotes that I carry with me to this day. note to self, tell the "Lee Press-On Nails" story in the next blog entry

Back with a brand-new invention

Today is April 1. I decided to make my website extra-awesome for you guys. Also, in case you missed it, I did eventually make a March page with a handful of entries.

What else is up. Today I took a walk around the neighborhood, with the added cardio-vascular benefit of fighting the wind much of the way. Had a relaxing soak in the complex's spa, did some grocery shopping. I'm trying to make a fancy Jell-O dessert using some ROY G. BIV action. Because, you know, rainBOWS, I like those, those are cool.
