Today is May 1. Blues made it to the Western Conference QuarterFinals; their first game, against the Colorado Avalanche, will be Thursday. Also on Thursday is my last Cpr E 211 exam.
DMB show was quite enjoyable. I only knew a handful of the songs but they were all excellent musicians and the excitement was very high. Plus I got to have Orange Chicken from Panda Express. Yum

Today is May 2. Read a cool article about SUB Films here. Here's the game plan for the rest of the week: 211 exam today. Tomorrow is EE 201 lab final + last PSpice + last Quack Quack. After that it's off to Des Moines for Spider-Man movie with my wonderful "he does too look like Tobey Maguire!" Christopher. Sounds pretty damn sweet, huh?

Today is May 6. I have to put a shirt on. I don't want to put a shirt on. That is all.

Today is May 8. Some good things. Blues won, big time. I took one exam this morning, and it went pretty well. I had 3 note pages and could find most of the stuff I needed....I even had one of the questions all written out as an example! Score!
I think they have someone new writing the NYTimes Crossword this week because there aren't stupid puns like usual.
Ahhhh what else. Oh. Spider-Man movie was really really good! It was the rare event in my life where everything goes off without a hitch. We got tickets to the 8:15 show and had great seats in the stadium-style theater of Wynnsong.
I found the movie very entertaining and well done with just that hint of cheeziness that comic book movies must have. Although it just proves my point about why taking the Twin Towers out of film/tv/etc. is a dumb idea. Their argument is that the sight of the towers would be too much for people, and I agree, it would be a very troubling image for someone who was there when it happeneed. But sometimes imagery in art must be troubling to some to have its intended effect.
When I saw the image of Peter's Aunt Mae in the hospital bed, hooked up to the machines, it was very troubling for me since it reminded me of my own mother, dying in her hospital bed in Rochester. This made me very sad, and I felt tears coming to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Chris noticed my shoulders starting to shake as they do before I weep, and he put his arms around me and comforted me.
But I wasn't angry at the filmmaker for putting that image in; rather it was on some level helpful because it allowed me to express some grief.
I think people who are going through their own personal grief at the time of a national tragedy have a very different perspective. As we were saying at work one day, People die all the time. Why should some get money and others not? I am all for helping people out but let's not make certain people's grief "worth" more than others. That's just sick. I wonder if others who have lost parents/friends recently would agree with me.
Some people might think I use my mom to get attention. But that is not true or at least I really hope it's not, on some weird level, because that would be pretty damn sick too.

Today is May 9. Finals are over, wahoooo! Chris and I just snagged some t-shirts with "Westgate" printed on them that were in a box in the den. Excitement, I know.
Now we have to pack up all our crap. Then tonight....we'll be investigaing a rare species of clock tower.

Today is May 10. Let the leeching begin! Everyone's in a mad rush to download all the "stuff" they can before they go home and lose that sweet, sweet ethernet. For example, someone I know has freakin Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones!
So Chris and I ended up going to Jon and Sara's and didn't get to do the true Campanilling experience. But we did have a good time with the aformentioned Raymonds, killing zombies, eating Oreos, and playing board games.

Today is May 14. Picked up Vapor Trails this morning at midnight. Courtesy my good price-gouging friend Sam Goody. Have listened to it one time through and a little more than that. Very cool, very worth the wait.
Right now I'm at Chris's Aunt Karen's house. We're getting ready to go to a banquet thing for the Waitt Foundation, the people that gave him [one of] his scholarship[s]. ;-) He's going to give a speech.
We'll be here in Sioux City until Saturday, which means no deli for me! And Karen and Gary have internet access (obviously). Ooh Chris is getting dressed up now!! Gotta go

Today is May 16. This lil' list of questions courtesy David (via Jill)

What color are your socks?
White with gray heels and toes

Do you think it's moral for people to keep pets?
Yes. But just like children, pets should only be had in small groups.

What actions did you do out of habit today?
Probably snacking on cookies and knitting.
In other news. Apparently there's a difference between "Iowa Values" and "Western Iowa Values," according to one of the candidates for US Congress from the 5th district. Since Iowa got redistricted, the entire western third of the state (roughly) is its own district. See the map here (apparently to keep their values pure they need their own district)

Today is May 20. Sitting here in Chris's Frederiksen Court bedroom, deleting all six emails I received (all Spam-tacular, of course). Moving in to The Student Apartments Formerly Known As Hawthorn Court went just fine. He has the basics (TV, computer, stereo) set up, as well as essentials like PopTarts. Most other stuff is still in boxes though.

Today is May 23. We're going to watch Upright Citizens Brigade, a show which I have never seen, but which many people have assured me is funny. People such as Regan, Chris, and Jon Stewart. Yeah.
On the subject of Grades. I found out my S02 ISU grades last week but never journaled about them. Overall, I was pretty pleased. Cumulative GPA still above 3.5, and that A in "Applied Music Woodwinds" (aka Clarinet Choir) sure helped ;-)
Chris is back. Yay =)

Today is May 30. It's hard for me to think of things to put in these updates since it's summer and not much is going on. But, I do have a committment to my legion (ha ha) of readers, so I am obliged to put *something*.
Recently Chris and I harnessed the technology of his VCR and my computer to create little movies from VHS tapes. I made 3: Teeny Little Super Guy, Guy that's Protected from Three-Inch Bees, and a skit from SNL where Corbin Bernsen, Dana Carvey, and Kevin Nealon play "Playgirl" models who keep repeating the phrase "for the people." As in "ya gotta make it nice for the people!" The reason I even give a fig about this otherwise unmemorable sketch dates back to the Mendi days of S.U.B. Films, where she and Canadian Joel stressed the importance of showing quality movies "for the people."
My point of all this is that eventually I hope to upload them to one of my webspaces and share them "for the people." Because I know there is quite a bit of interest on the web for the Guy that's Protected from Three-Inch Bees as well as the Teeny Little Super Guy.
I saw the movie "Monsters Inc." the other day at the discount theater. It is definitely a worthy addition to the entire Pixar canon.
Listened to a whole lot of Neil Young today. "I've seen the needle and the damage done, a little part of it in every one."
At the Half-Price book store I bought $20 worth of old Doonesbury books. My new goal is to collect all of them that have been published over the years. A much weightier task, certainly, than amassing all the "Bloom County" books, or even "Calvin and Hobbes," but a good challenge nevertheless. Also a nice way to brush up on US history, 1970 - present.

Today is May 31. The time is 11:36 PM and the Lakers/Kings game is STILL going on. So no Conan for the kiddies tonight =(
After work, Chris and I drove north a ways and watched the Scandi Days fireworks. We parked on a gravel road and sat on our double foldout chair. They weren't the most exciting fireworks I'd ever seen, and I didn't think the grand finale was very grand. But it was an interesting experience nonetheless. We heard the mooing of nearby cattle. They needed to express their apprehension about the lights in the sky.
