Plans (and schemes)
I have long had dreams of opening up a bar someday. I think my friend Julia and I
could do it up right. We'd definitely have a Steely Dan coverband play on a regular
basis. If it were up to me, they'd be called the Kid Charlemagnes (yes) but we'll let the
faux Walter and Donald figure that one out. Today I thought up a great name for the
tavern itself: Loco Ocho's. I've been working on logos and stuff.

Hey, I'd drink there. Maybe get some nachos, whatever. It wouldn't necessarily
have to be cantina-esque inside, but c'mon, nachos. They're good in any
environment. And before I get
apostrophe e-mails, I'm using it in the sense of someone called Ocho as the
proprieter, and it is his bar. Like "Carlos O'Kelley's" or somesuch.

Introspective Girl
Today is May 26. Using science (ok, using ls -l) I was able to determine that the
previous entry there was written on May 19. Cool. Today I am feeling a bit The
Introspective Girl. I was lying on my bed, staring up at the ceiling, listening to
my music. In a little bit I'm going to get ready to go to a picnic in Ames. Though
with the rain we had today it may have been called off. Oh well, I'm sure I'll find
something to do either way. My hair has been sort of curly lately. I think it's
the humidity. I've always had not-quite-curly, not-quite-straight hair. At the
outset this seems like a good deal, since you can make a choice to go a little bit
in either direction. But in reality, my hair won't hold a style very well. My
grandma says I get the crummy fine hair from the Swiss side, but since I'm only 1/16
Swiss, there had to be some bad-haired Hadaways or Kellers back there somewhere too.

Follow-ups from last time. The "Biscuits" thing is a link to my friend and former
co-worker Alan's punk band. We had a running joke where we claimed the alcohol pads
we used on the iMac G5 MLB's smelled like those tube biscuits. And we'd open the
package and say "biiiiiiscuits." I found that page via a google search for his name
and Iowa.
The Hold Steady! The show was so awesome. I was kind of hoping they'd change some
of the instances of "Mississippi River" into "Missiouri River" b/c of being in
Omaha. Because I am a nerd, that is the kind of thing I find funny. Also I'm a
little upset with myself that I missed an opportunity to yell out "STEVIE NIX!" I
guess I was paranoid that since I wasn't 100% sure which Hold Steady song bore the
title "Stevie Nix," that I would somehow yell out a 'request' for it *after* it had
been played. Their keyboard player is definitely a cool dude. He brings a
great style to the band. Actually when I saw them up on stage I thought "this
fellow looks like he'd be more at home in Gogol Bordello" and then lo and behold I
read his bio thingie and he's a gypsy/klezmer music guy too. Plus he had his
shirtsleeves rolled up, which I completely dig.

Pit of ultimate darkness
Stupid internal body chemistry. I miss one day of pill-form medicine, and I very
nearly plan a walking trip to Dahl's for the sole purpose of procuring the liquid
variety. Would go to Billy Joe's but I'm just this side of being depressed
"enough" to pay to see Wild
Hogs, the theater-cum-bar and grille's selection this evening.
Note to self: register MyCatWontShutUp.com. Prepare for
onslaught of "me too's." Actually compounding the problem is a barking dog across
the way, at the neighborhing complex which inexplicably allows them. I need to call
their leasing office and get my complain on.
Can someone buy me this? I sweah ta gawd
I'll weah it. I did another "get a thing of cheap beef and cook the hell out of
it." It's all nice and stringy now. You can cook up some ramen and put the beef in
there, or you can make a casserole with pork and beans and put biscuit dough on top.
Mmmmm, biscuits.
Significance of the link explicar-ed in the next post. Tomorrow I go see The Hold
Steady in Homerha. Should be a good time. Last show I went to was Leslie Hall back
in Nov at the roller rink. The perils of not liking very many modern bands, I
suppose.

Where's that kitten?
Today is May 16. It has been an interesting couple of weeks. The temp job is
really great. The people on my floor are super fun and I am working on some cool
projects with them. Today I was actually offered a full-time job at a different
company. Haven't signed on the line yet, but things are looking good.
The title of this entry is something I often say when I'm walking up the
sidewalk to the apartment. One time I even heard him meowing from all the way
upstairs. Couldn't believe it.
later Today at work I was doing some photocopying and I noticed these
little triangle-shaped pieces of plastic near the document feeder. They retracted
when
pressed, I imagine they were there to keep stray papers and items from falling into
the doc. feeder. I remarked,
"Copier shark. Sharks in the
copier." At Hy-Vee when we would make cheese sauce, sometimes I would put a
slice of American halfway in, on the diagonal, and trail it around saying, "Cheese
shark, sharks in the
cheese." Then we'd yell after that professor
dude, "Try not to kick
any dogs on your way through the parking lot!"
