Today is June 2. Saturday in Story City was pretty fun. First we
watched the parade, and we happened to sit by my friend Trisha, her
big sis Dina, and Dina's child Emma. Then we had lunch at Immanuel,
followed by 4H Mini Golf, and a ride on the Carousel. Next I bought
Chris a funnel cake, since he had never had one. Then we played 4H
Ring Toss and Lions Bingo. We each one two pops at ring toss and I
won $4 from Bingo. My high school principal, Mr. Pohlman, was in
charge of Bingo.
It was a really hot day so we decided to just make our way home. We
browsed the lackluster flea market, and then came back to Ames. I
think Scan. Days seem scaled down from past years but of course it
could just be that it seemed more exciting to me when I was a
child.
Chris and I have a new hobby which is collecting Spider-Man cards.
If anyone else out there is collecting them too, lemme know and maybe
we can swap =)
Today is June 6. I've been working quite a bit and spending much time
with
Chris. The summer is going fast but at least I'm having fun. I'm trying
the "Carbohydrate Addict's" diet, to see if I can accomplish anything.
Really, I don't have that much to write about.
Today is June 8. Today I worked 6-2 and did self serve. The day went
pretty fast. For me, it is day 2 of a six-day run. We'll see how I feel
by, oh, day five.
In other work news. We have switched our store music from "Super Hits of
the Seventies" to "Awesome Eighties" (both labels I made up). At first I
was not too keen on the new tunes, but I have reached a conclusion.
There are many more songs I don't recognize at all, but then there are
ones we *all* know, and belt out like mad. Examples "The Flame" by Cheap
Trick and "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell. It's a wacky fun time.
Also today was Whitney's last day at Hy-Vee. Whitney worked in the Salad
Bar, and had recently gradutated from ISU as an "Imaginary Engineer."
She is very cool. Tonight I'm going to a party for her at The Fox
Lounge, a karaoke bar here in Ames.
Today is June 9. I worked ten hours today! OUCH. But got some overtime
so that's cool. Later Chris and I went *back* to Hy-Vee to get him some
bread and milk and we spotted this woman with a tiny kitten in her car,
sitting on her shoulder as she drove into the parking lot. She let us
hold the kitten and pet it. It was a lovely moment.
Oh yeah, report from The Fox. It was a pretty cool place, with a
decidedly more bar-like feel than Welch Ave. Station. We drank some
beers with Whitney, Ben, and co., and I performed "Runnin' With the
Devil" on karaoke. It was a fun time.
Today is June 13. Well the six days of deli madness are over. This
whole week (Monday-Friday) we have huge caterings, the bosses coming in
at 2 in the morning to start preparing stuff, and tons of extra people
from places like Ankeny, Marshalltown, and the Can and Bottle Room. I
was there for 3 days of the chaos, and that was enough for me.
I bought a book about Rush today at Hastings.
My copy has the title incorrectly spelled as "Mereley Players" so it
looks sort of funny. Also picked up the long awaited National Geographic
with the ZipUSA feature
on 50012, a.k.a. Friley, Helser, and Westgate Dormitories. Some of
the
places and faces seem familiar, and Chris claims I have said hello to the
blonde young man sporting a dog collar in the first photograph. It's a
very cool spread; the photos, the text, and the author's and
photographer's notes about the assignment.
Today is June 18. A few days ago went back to ZZZ Records, and there was some
vinyl madness indeed. They had a bin with records for $2 each, or 8 for
$8! So I was a happy scavenger and found some Van Halen (II and 1984),
Cheap Trick, Journey, The Knack, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac,
Styx, and Boston (the guy at the shop let me have another
for 1 more dollar). I've been listening to them while I work on my
knitting.
Also congrats to Megan Armbrecht on her upcoming marriage. I'll be
making the trip to Mankato myself (with Chris) to see "Echy" get hitched
to
Jeff.
Also this Friday is Solstice, and I hope to have my annual Solstice Party
at my home. Say, sixish? Show up. We'll eat, drink, and make merry.
On the longest day of the year.
Today is June 20. Celebration of Solstice will commence SATURDAY morning
in the cheerful hamlet of Ames. Garages of the populace will be visited,
wares purchased. That is all.
In other words, don't be showing up
at my hiz-ouse Friday night looking for a good time, g! (unless you are my Christopher...)
Today is June 30. "June 30, June 30" is a poem by Richard Brautigan.
If you've never read any of his work, I suggest you check it out. His
poetry and prose is very engaging.
Speaking of engaging, ha ha, my cousin Ryann and her boyfriend Gehan are
engaged. Congratulations to them.
Chris and I visited Sioux City yesterday and the day before. We left
Ames on Friday at like 11:45 and got back to my house yesterday at about
9:30, 9:45 pm. So it was a short trip but still fun. We got to see
Brent for one last time before he goes to Australia, we watched the movie
"The Others," and we swam in Karen and Gary's pool that they have in
their deck. We also hung out with Chris's mom, grandma, and some of his
friends. I got to play with a really fun cat. Oh yeah and I got a
beautiful long dress from Hot Topic
for 50% off. We also ventured to South Dakota and bought fireworks
for Independence Day.
