Today is June 13. Cheap Trick
show at the track was very fun. We didn't get to sit in the special lawn chair section,
so we just stood in front of the double chair during the show. It was
Bun E. Carlos's birthday (Bun E. is their drummer. back in the day he
looked like a shop teacher) so that makes 2 concerts in a row where it
was someone's birthday. (LTJ == Roger bday) Rick
Neilsen did in fact
have the 5-necked guitar for "Surrender." I had a fun time mocking the
adults in the crowd. EVERY woman in that place was wearing capri pants
practically. There was one song where the audience clapped along, but
many couldn't clap on the right beat. At one point, I started to feel
guilty for being such a sneering, mocking twentysomething at a concert
full of people who, even though they may have looked foolish, old, or
embarassing, were at least out having a good time. I told Jess, "I,
Rachel Hadaway, swear that I will not make fun of the audience anymore."
A couple seconds pass. Then she says, "What about that guy?" She pointed
to a man wearing a green tee-shirt, rocking out as he moved through the
crowd. "He's ok, he's a rocker, through and through," I responded.
Suddenly my view of him was unobstructed and I said, "Oh, those pants!!"
as in "Man I can't believe I have sworn not to mock someone wearing ZUBAZ
pants!" Yes my dear friends this man was wearing a snakeskin type of
ZUBAZ pants, in Chicago Bears colors. If you don't remember,
Zubaz were
pants (and hats and other apparel) that combined the taste and refinement
of animal prints with the classiness of pro sports teams colors. It was
a SLIGHTLY neat idea at the time, for casual wear. But to see a pair in
action now, it's craziness.
Oh yeah, and they played Dream Police in the encore. I was happy.
