I have problems

Today is June 30. You know, the only time bulimia seems like a remotely good idea is when pizza is involved. Pizza is just so fucking good and you want to eat a lot of it. I'm full and I have to remind myself that I can just put the pizza away and eat it later. Plus then I won't feel supersick. But still. Pizza.

Remember Mitch's joke about being a racecar passenger? I was at the racing store getting a pop (they have a pop machine that costs $1 so if you don't mind going upstairs you can save 20% off the pop machines on the ground floor!) and a particular item caught my eye. It was a cap featuring the Tide logo. I realize it is a bit "inside," but I think it's pretty cool. My idea was to send it to Molly. Or, as Jonathan suggested, I could wear it to the premiere of Talladega Nights =)

Today is June 28. Rundown on the past few days. Monday night I went to see "Click" with one of my friends. It's sort of "A Christmas Carol" plus "Back To The Future Part II" mixed with that song "Cats in the Cradle." Honestly we thought it was a lot more depressing than we were expecting. Some good performances though. Tues and Weds were both pretty good days at work. Honestly my co-workers at that job rock my socks. I am trying to get over my spanish-shyness with talking to our cleaning person. I knew Rosa (at Hy-Vee) so well and I knew she didn't care if I didn't conjugate verbs or form complete sentences. So with this gal I am trying to walk that line between being friendly and thinking I'm hot stuff b/c I know diez palabras en Español. I was going upstais to get some breakfast (the Chick-fil-a is open for breakfast at our mall) and so I offered to get her 'comida o un café' She said she wanted cafe con leche, so I obliged. I'm trying not to do the white-guilt thing but just enjoying speaking Spanish to someone.

Today is June 26. I have returned after another fun, fabulous 7-day run. I made it even more of a marathon by attending the training session in Photoshop last night. We learned about layers and compositing and stuffs. Right now I've got the cooking oil heating up so I can make hash browns, eggs, and bacon for breakfast. Lots of times when I wake up, I'm not at all hungry but today I decided to go for it.

Jess and I went to the DSM Art Fest, which was pretty cool. Lots of cool stuff to see and eat. It's sort of like a State Fair but with fewer scary people. We had gyros but I got a big grease stain on Professor Science (you know, basically a dipolodocus with one of those square graduation hats on him). The worst was that it didn't really come out in the wash. Maybe I'll have to hit up BIlly Mays for some Orange Clean.

Have you checked out Fargo Rock City yet? Don't you *want* to hear me read a book to you? There are now ten chapters up for your enjoyment. If there are any technical concerns (can't get all the chapters, can't hear me over the wailin' guitars) please let me know. Stylistic comments or legal threats you can kindly keep to yourself. I went to state all 3 years I was in Individual Speech (2 of those years in Radio Broadcasting). I was also part of an All-State performance for Large Group speech, but that qualification is not especially relevant here. Long story short, listen, enjoy, I am awesome.

Today is June 17. I was sitting there, eating my supper, thinking about how sad it was that I was sitting in a McDonald's alone on a Saturday night, listening to 10cc's "I'm Not In Love" on the in-store music. Enjoying the patheticness of the situation. Then all of a sudden I overhear a customer ordering a salad. "Get the ASIAN salad," the Asian-American counter woman encourages the customer, who is also appears to be of Asian descent. "Asian salad the best," she continues. I had to work SO hard not to crack up. I wondered if I had wandered into a Margaret Cho bit. It was excellent.

Today is June 13. I'm sorry, but putting a watch on a cat's neck does not make it Flava Flav. My right hand is tingly/asleep because I was laying on it funny.

Today i went to see a matinee of Cars. I know it's been getting some less-than-stellar reviews (it's Pixar's own fault for setting the bar so high, heh) but I really liked it! They were some good graphics in there, and some fun little spoofs of things. Also: tratters. I would recommend this movie for fans of any of the following: cars, NASCAR, Owen Wilson, Pixar, comedy, shiny things, the southwestern US, driving, "the good old days," the hippie/war vet dichotomy, and dissing SUV's. There are some secret things that I don't want to spoil, but it involves a show that my dad likes on HBO. And L the Cable Guy, yeah, he does say "Get 'er Done" but it is only the one time, and it isn't like a huge catchphrase for the character of the tow truck. Speaking of which (this is what got me started on collegehumor.com this evening in the first place) see Daniel Whitney as you've never seen him before: as a generic 80's comic with bad hair! You're from NEBRASKA. Just like that Bright Eyes guy. Deal with it. Ooh! Inspiration! Cross-promotiona, mixed-genre, pan-entertainment way for me to make some money. Larry the EMO cable guy. Dig it.

Linketies: Gem Sweater. Leslie Hall brings some of the finest white hip-hop since Brandon DiCamillo's Chinese Freestyle in CKY2K. ("I can kick you higher than you can kick me. I can kick you way up in a tree"). She has some other cool stuff and guess what, she is from Ames, IA. Thx to David for the hook up, after watching Gem Sweater and some of the other songs I was left wondering "How did I not know about this for so long?!?!"

Now for what I have been up to lately. I created a
podcast this summer that is basically a book on tape of Fargo Rock City for y'all. You can even subscribe in iTunes if you are so inclined. There are 5 chapters up as of this writing (I may record another one before I head to bed) and I think about 20 or 21 total in the book. So far the critics have been saying that I "have a nice reading noise" but "sometimes let cats bump the mic." Dude, that sounds like a hip-hop lyric. ("my beats are fresh and my flow is tight/but I sometimes let cats bump the mic") Leslie, do you need another LY for the Iowa contingent??!!

Today is June 8. I'm just hanging out and watching Home Movies. Been on a Jon Benjamin tear lately, it seems, what with getting Dr. Katz from Netflix a couple rentals ago. That show is seriously awesome. Even though it is from the early 90's it doesn't seem dated to me. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys comedy.

Last night I had a dream that I lived in a house in a neighborhood. I had these crazy big towers in my yard that I would climb up and hang out on. Then I went over to my neighbor's house and sort of insinuated myself into their kitchen so I could eat a meal with them. Then later I tried to come back but they weren't "getting the hint" that I wanted to eat with them again.

Other recent rentals: Good-bye Lenin! It was very well acted and it had a unique story. (I have a spoileriffic review of the movie but I wouldn't share it here in case someone wanted to see it). Sarah SIlverman: Jesus is Magic This movie was not "hilarious" but she had a few great jokes. Also the musical bits were pretty cool with the different costumes and such. Also: Brian Posehn and Bob Odenkirk! Helping out! But (and I say this as a friend, er, not so much a friend as just a person who says things) I don't that "Big S" would be as famous/acclaimed/etc if she wasn't so pretty. Brent thinks she looks like a dude, but whatever. Most sources would agree she is good-looking.

I also wanted to say Happy Birthday to my friend Keith. A couple months ago, I found him on myspace but now he's gone! So I hope he is doing well and that he hasn't been deleted along with his account.
