shake off the dust...

Today is June 30. Shannon and I went to the Des Moines Art Festival. It was fun times. Didn't buy anything, but saw some supercool stuff. Don't know why I haven't been updating this site. Job is going well. I am learning a lot about SQL. It is pretty interesting how it all works!

I made a new crazy stew with chicken, tomatoes, celery, carrots, potatoes, and chicken broth. Haven't tried it yet. The tomatoes were a bit of a gamble; I wasn't sure how they would cook up, being fresh and all. The truth of the matter is I am not a great fan of tomatoes but I would like some lycopene. I enjoy a tomato slice on a sandwich but that's about it. Perhaps sneaking them into the stew will work. I'm also formulating an idea for a health-food Chili. The worst part, naturally, would be the exclusion of Fritos. Stay tuned.

Oh, that naive young otter

Today is June 16. Today I went to see Shrek the Third (primarily for the orange cat goodness). During the credits I saw the name Philippe and I was like, aww. We love Philippe! Then when I was driving home, this comic popped into my head, and I couldn't stop laughing. Inside my car.

Hey! Listen!

Today is June 13. Job is going well so far. I am digging through layers of stupid in my head to find my inner codemonkeySquirrel. I even got an O RLY book with a goldfish on the cover to help me get my learn on.

Time for a little shameless self-promotion. In the sidebar there's a link for "I Like Reading To You." In case you haven't checked it out, it's actually my audiobook/podcast recording of the book Fargo Rock City by Chuck Klosterman. It's been idle for several months, but I just put a new episode up yesterday. Definitely check it out if you like things that are awesome (not to mention $FREE)

With the nail and the hitting, on my head yet!

Today is June 2. So I'm hanging out at home tonight (Saturday night), catching a syndicated episode of Scrubs on the TV. Calypso and I were having some fun with the ol' shiny jangly toy. Suddenly there was a commercial on for cat food, and I shouted "Hey! Quit.....marketing to me." Lord knows the sad lonely 20-something cat owner cannot be that coveted of a demographic. Hence relegating the ads to 11:00 p.m. on a Saturday.

Actually I do not feel the usual amount of lameness for being at home on a Saturday night. Today, I took Jill and Kyrie up to Story Sooty for Scandinavian Days! We went to the parade (sat in a really nice shady spot by Merrell's) and ate some lunch at Bethel, since Immanuel wasn't doing a lunch this year. We also checked out the crafts, heritage stuff at Sons of Knute Norway, and looked at classic cars. They had inflateable rides instead of the typical carnival, and everything was downtown instead of at the park. After we had seen everything we wanted, we went to the flea market at the antique store up by the interstate. I got this little printer's drawer looking thing full of novelty buttons, a/k/a flair. The seller wanted 50 cents apiece for the buttons but I got the whole thing, container/holder included, for 10 bucks. I think it makes a cool, kitschy piece of art. I'ma hang it on my wall.

I saw a TON of people I knew (natch) and visited with some as well. In no particular order.....Carol Baedke, Mrs. Biechler, Kendra Wendt, and Cathy Hermanson. I had on a hat and sunglasses for some of the time so maybe not everyone recognized me. It was nice to be able to say "I have a job!" to those I visited with.
