Great Moments in Poigniancy
mood:    complacent
Today is July 5. Due to holiday weekend and general laziness it has taken me this long to get a new news page up. Experimenting with a new format, lemme know what you think. The title of this post comes from me driving away from Taco Time after having dinner with Chris. It was raining, and Nazareth's "Love Hurts" was on the radio.

Saturday was awesome; I went down to Sheldahl for the parade and stuff. Grandma Hazel helped me pick out some rag rugs at the craft part, and then we ate some lunch (incl. pecan pie). Later I hooked back up with Lisa, Lucas, Jacob, et al and went to the carnival and hung out. They had these little pvc pipe guns that you could blow marshmallows out of, those were a big hit. That night we regrouped for fireworks. One interesting moment was when Lucas took a box of sparklers, threw some snakes in, and lit the whole thing on fire. The Sheldahl fireworks were nice, and we had a great view of them from the end of Bill and Lisa's street.

Sunday and today I worked. Tomorrow I have the day off, and Naomi is schemeing to give me a professional makeover, with the help of her sister Rebecca (who works at the hair salon in Somerset. )

Covered With Bug Bites
mood:    irritated
Today is July 6. A very dull dream last night in which I nearly bought another laptop just like Swoop. I was on a road trip, and we stopped at this guy's house, and he was trying to sell me an iBook. I decided not to buy it because I thought it would be better to buy a brand-new souped-up one.

Plans for today: more cleaning, do resume/job applyingish stuff, return library books, dub the Punky Brewster DVD onto VHS for Christine, buy Six Feet Under. Hopefully, be at home when UPS gets here so I can get my yoga tapes.

A Bad and Lazy Rachel
mood:    annoyeded
Today is July 7. The list of yesterday? I cleaned, dubbed, and bought. I moved my bed to a different corner of the room. It makes my bedroom look huge and awesome. Today I'm going to mail 2 things, and actually return the books. After I play Animal Crossing, I'll send out 2 resumes. I promise.

Last night, Naomi and I watched Lost in Translation. It did not change our lives. It just made us sleepy. But it did seem like she laughed a lot through the movie (me, not so much, but you must remember I'm dead inside) so at least she enjoyed it. I had a 2-for-1 coupon from my cereal box for movie rentals, so i also got Monster, to watch on my own. Haven't yet, but they're not due til Sunday so no real rush.

In Which Rachel Learns That "Cute" Is Not Part Of Her Mood Theme
mood:    cheerful
Today is July 9. I did get my hair cut yesterday. You can view the results here and here, if the movie doesn't want to work. It still feels pretty strange (I miss the feeling of my hair dusting my back) but will be fun. I can get some glasses with square frames and be indie rock =)

Presently, I need to make the lemonade dessert thing for my reunion tomorrow. Yes folks, it's already time for the RSHS class of 99 reunion. To be held at the Roland Shelter House. It seems to be a low-key affair, potluck, BYOB. Rebecca (the artist of the above style, and member of RSHS class of 97) said only like 17 ppl came to their 5-year. That doesn't bode well, since their class had about the same number of people as ours. I do wish I had a hot guy on my arm, but I think a tasty dessert and a 12-pack will have to do.

One quick thing - if you want a free pair of VS underwear, let me know. I got this card in the mail that entitles you and up to 6 people you can drag down to the mall with you a FREE pair of their new "Pink" line of undies. Disappointingly, they chose to offer this line in the XS-L range only, rendering me ineligible. So if you fit that description, you could have one or 7 new pairs of underwear. I would even be willing to go with you as one of the friends. Lemme know.

The 90's: Not That Bad
mood:    nostalgic
Today is July 14. So, yes, mood is nostalgic for two reasons. One being "I Love The 90's" of course. (Side note: no Donal Logue? wtf?) I was very hesitant, since I look back on the 90's as sucking. But when you watch it, it just sort of makes you think of all the things that were going on in your own life. For example, when they talked about C+C Music Factory, it made me think of the dance parties my brother and I would have, jamming to that tape on our back patio. Or watching Jurassic Park at the Story Theater with 2 of my best friends, then spending the night at my house and freaking out when we saw the glow-in-the-dark T. Rex skeleton model on my dad's desk.

The other reason for nostalgia was the big 5 Year Reunion. I think it went pretty well. Of "My people" or "our people" it was me, Jason Bucklin, and Tim. Lars came at the beginning but had to leave to go see Veronica performing in something. Trisha (nee Auld) was there too, with her husband and baby (Colby) but I didn't get to talk to her that much. Rachel Billerbeck did a good job on the organizing, quick shout-out to her.

Next big thing is Sharon's wedding on Saturday. Already there has been some drama, which I won't go into here. Hopefully everything gets figured out and we can all have a nice time out in the IA City.

Groovin'...on a Monday Night
mood:    artistic
Today is July 19. Quick, listen to David Essex's "Rock On." Listen to it with your headphones on. That bass is *tight*, and that is not a word I use in that context much.

Artistic cuz I made some custom flip-flops today. Yellow and green 2mm craft foam, an xacto knife, a green sharpie, and lots of superglue. Now I have pineys on my toes ;-)

Sharon's wedding was great. I think everyone had a nice time, with delicious food, great conversations, and DJ Keith. I half-jokingly told him he should have some Bay City Rollers, and damned if he didn't turn around and pull one of theirs out of his extensive library of crated vinyl. (Almost as cool as my extensive library of crated DVDs) I have a bunch of pics that I plan to scan in tomorrow if I can still login to the comps in Durham (Durable Ham).

Tomorrow early Naomi leaves for her new job, at a college in northern Cali. She's going to be a res hall director (or something very close to that). Tomorrow I'm going to apply for some jobs too. One on "DesMoinesHelpWanted.Com" caught my eye today. I will pounce tomorrow, I promise.

Trapped in my Kitchen
mood:    numb
Today is July 27. My apartment is practically all cleared out, and the carpets have been cleaned. I have saved for today the task of cleaning out my kitchen. Right now, it's 11:20, and they're coming to check out the apartment at 4, so I have until then to get the place all finished up. At least the carpet cleaning solution has some kind of orange zest to it, so the smell is much nicer than when they used to clean the hallways in Helser. I'm relishing my last moments with high speed internet, before I go home and face the two words that strike fear into the hearts of all geeks "Dial Up." It was strange going home (I spent last night in my old room and returned this morning at ten to let the cleaners in to the apt). In the bathroom, here were two Time magazines my dad had saved from July/August 1999, issues remembering John F. Kennedy Jr. It was as though the last five years hadn't happened, and I had never left. The last time I lived at home was actually only two years ago, but that was just for the summer, between Westgate and Country Club. So we will see how it goes. Since we both have cell phones, Dad says he doesn't care if I'm online quite a bit (as opposed to back in the day when it drove him freakin crazy), so long as I am looking and applying for jobs.

Addendum: to illustrate the seriousness of the title of this post, don't think "kitchen." Think "hallway with appliances and cupboards on each side."

No shower, no nap, just internettin
mood:    tired
Today is July 31. Welcome to dialup blog. *or* welcome to dialup, blog. lord love our crazy language we have here. Speaking of language (heh) there was a character on a tv show who claimed to be from Boise, ID, but he pronounced it with the zee instead of the see as the true locals do. Shout out to Micron because that's how I learned this regional fact. See also "ballmer" for Baltimore on Homicide:Life on the Street, and ForDoge and Lincolnway (all one word).

Now you can read up on this cool idea I had yesterday.
