Today is August 6. The title for this month's journal page is courtesy of my friend Faith Straszheim. Shout-out to Faith!
I'm just sitting here in my new apartment in my new chair (15 bucks at a sidewalk sale) feeling the new-apartment vibe, and listening to some old mp3's. It's not a bad life. The songs from Hedwig are making me smile. Larry seems happy too, with his peripherals all plugged back in (except the turntable, which i forgot at home =(, perched atop a new desk.
Today at work, the big buzz was that the wheel fell off the delivery van while the delivery guy was driving to a catering. Scary, eh?

Today is August 10. Two-days-ago birthday shout-out to Chris and Chad Gelner. They turned 8 on 8-8-88, and they got their picutre in the paper. Good guys. I hope they had a nice birthday.
Still trying to get settled in the new lil' apartment. Pretty soon I'll get the record player set up (which I went back and got from home) and crank some Van Halen.
And yesterday, of course was The Fair. Chris and I had a good time...I had to do a little convincing so he'd let me take all the "free stuff" from the Varied Industries Building. "Think of it like the career fair," I said. We even rode the Ski lift thing (I don't know what it's called) and smooched....awww everyone pukes now ;-)
We were getting kind of bored of the fair, so we went and had dinner at Chili's, then it was time for Journey!! The show was pretty rockin'. It was so fun to hear all my fav Journey tunes live and sing along to them with hundreds of others. I felt they played a little too much "adult contemporary" sounding music. Like songs off 3SC4P3 (Escape) and Frontiers. These were the first two albums they made with current keyboardist Jonathan Cain, and they were pretty big hits. So too bad for Rachel, who prefers the 3 previous albums, which were made with old keyboardist Greg Rolle. At least I understand the reasoning though. BAnd, of course they still played all the "good songs" that we were hoping for. We were forever theirs...faithfully

Today is August 13. Yesterday I bought some big pants (but I didn't pay that much, hehe). Yes Ames finally got a Hot Topic, so now I can be a distinctive, unique individual...just like everybody else!
Also yesterday Dad, Chris and I went to visit Grandma Rose at Mercy in Des Moines. She has been there almost a week, but just moved out of the Cardiac ICU yesterday. Now she's in a regular room, actually it's much much nicer than a regular room! It's nicely decorated, with a couch and table and a kitchenette. Plus if you look east you can see the capitol.

Today is August 18. 5 days of work in a row, and now it's off to Sioux City for a little relaxing, then 4 more days of work, then FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! Yikes!
Things of note today at work. One of our regulars, who we really hate, today came in wearing two different shoes. One brown and one black. This man is a local landlord, has tons of money, yet frequently tries to steal newspapers and/or coffee from the deli. And when he does actually buy something, it's just like toast or a side dish of green beans. To top it off he is a complete asshole, and all of us want to get him banned from the store for life. So we all took turns pretending to go wipe things off out in the dining room so we could get a look at "Old Two-Shoes" as I will now be calling him.
Now to follow up on a report I made back in April regarding Rush coming to Ames. Now their stop in Ames had remained "unconfirmed" for a long time, and I was beginning to lose hope. But then my friend RGN said she saw it on Pollstar that they were, in fact, coming to Hilton. (At that time it had been posted within the last 72 hours, according to their little symbol). So, yay. It's also on their official site so I'm very very confident that 4 days before my birthday, I'll be boogying like an idiot to the new Vapor Trails tunes, old favorites, and hopefully some cool random stuff they haven't played in a while! **Sigh** can't wait!
One last note, I was playing some Snood today. Brought back memories =)

Today is August 23. I am yet again at work. the trip to S.C. was fun, Chris and I visited his family, and I got a Hemispheres picture disc at a local record store called Uncle John's. The TV is on in the break room and it had a promo for Hoollywood Squares, and it said Gillian Anderson would be on this week. Bizarre.
If you've never seen Caddyshack, I definitely reccomend it. The story is kinda dumb, but there a lot of great quotes. Like "We're all gonna get laid!" Plus it has some cool music.
I threw up today at work earlier in the day. Now normally I'd be like, Ooh, I just threw up can I go home? But today we were already down one person (plus I actually felt much better afterwards) so I have stuck it out and now I only have about an hour left. Then, the rest of the day is mine to do nothing! Yay!

Today is August 25. Sucky day at work; glad it's over. First off, I was late, but I didn't get written up because none of the bosses were there. So I felt kinda guilty about that. Then I found out Nancy was there doing self-serve instead of me so of course there had to be friction there. Gr! Then I got a complaint about me from a customer who thought I was rude to her kid who was standing in my way as I was trying to take breakfasts out to some people. (Not to mention that the loser lady had a shopping cart in the dining room, a bad habit that will be eliminated only when I am allowed to bring a pellet gun with me to work. She also had a tattoo on her ankle that is a ring of "Playboy" bunny heads...but you already know what I think of Playboy crap.)
So I battled hordes of people shoveling food into their ugly faces, and then I got to come home and relax. I feel much better now.
Note on above link...I met the guys that run that shirt company at a music festival. I think it's cool that there are young guys that are speaking out against pornography. The message they present is a good one, even if you don't agree with the emphasis on Christianity or "values" and "morality." There are many great reasons to oppose nasty porn; whether you think it's immoral, degrading, or just stupid. So check out their site, and you can get a shirt or just something new to think about.

Today is August 26. First day of school! First-day shoutouts to all my ISU homies. I don't know if U of I or UNI started today, but if they do, hope they have a good first day as well.
So far I had EE 333 followed by Cpr E 305. Then I sat around and did the Daily crossword puzzle. One of my goals this year is to complete the puzzle every day. And of course I have all sorts of meaningful goals relating to grades and finances and all that good stuff too....right. I'll probably add more later, such as my class schedule in HTML format and links to all my courses home pages.
Now I just gotta kill a couple more hours and try to stop running into people I know....just kidding, I love you all.
