A Cheeto Fest
mood:   lazy
Today is August 1. This morning I ate some cheetos (baked) and an egg salad sandwich for breakfast. Sort of different but it hit the spot. Last night was the all-store picnic at Adam's house. It was really fun, lots of food, got to meet people's wives/girlfriends/kids. They had awards for the teams and the weird thing is I was on team Liger, which lost from the first round, then I got traded to Tiger which lost in the 2nd round. So I don't think I should have got an award but they had me get a prize anyway, which was a .Mac tee. It is navy blue with the blue globe logo on it.

Recent movies: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. I found it very entertaining, and artfully shot. Sam Rockwell was awesome, will definitely be checking out more of his movies. The way they did the color was great too. And they even had TV's George Michael as the young Chuck Barris! Also from Netflix I got Prozac Nation, yes, it went "direct to video." I found it to be very true to life. I don't think I ever flipped out that badly; though maybe I should have :-p

Who wants to hear my theory of how the Teamocil song sounds like Limber Legs from Mr. Show? Maybe they just let Crossy make his own tune and he has an affinity for that melody =) Oh yeah, speaking of Mr. Show, I was looking at one of my Doonesbury books that I picked up used and I noticed it was from the Gwinnett County Library, namesake of Button Gwinnett. Yes, Jack Plotnick's character from the Founding Fathers/original flag sketch. Also featuring Tom Kenny as "Brooklyn Lincoln." "Founding Fathers Hey! Founding Fathers Ho! ... Dogpile on Gwinnett!" Thanks to David for the insights into Georgia history.

First Post!!! (With new keyboard)
mood:   relieved
Today is August 2. Work was very, very busy today and I'm glad to be home. If you remember from a few months ago, I started having problems with my keyboard. I knew I would have to buy a new once since typing sentences of any length required serious re-editing. Here is an example (typing with old KB) T{oday bat[b work bit[b wasb rally busy bb ut[b event[ually bI bg'ot[b ou[tb ofb t[here.b b (back to new KB) See you can't live like that. It's one thing to type short words or phrases into search boxes, but a sentence was just a joke. Since in the back of my mind I'll be getting a new computer "soon," I didn't feel like buying another Apple KB asI would get one with my new Mac. So I happened to find a decent looking keyboard at Compusa.com for 10 bucks, went there after work, turned my green "Student Union" tee inside-out, and walked in and bought it. I left my Apple keyboard plugged in, and plugged this new one into the other USB port that the mouse is not in. It seems to be working well so far. There is a little Windows-flag key that believe it or not has the function of the open-Apple key! And alt is of course option. The F9/F10/F11 still control Expose which is pretty cool. There are some Internet and Multimedia buttons that don't work at all except that the "stop" button (square) mutes my system volume. I'm keeping the old KB plugged in for now, mostly for its hub properties.

Wow, that was incredibly pointless to anyone but me! The only other thing to report is only of interest to fans of Custom Dolls. I was looking on Amazon and noticed that there were some new Bratz out so I went to Toys R Us to check them out. There was one who I thought looked like Lisa Kudrow as Michelle from Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. And thus a new customs project had begun. I watched the movie again, (it's one of my all-time favorites) writing down each outfit that the characters wore. For sure I want to make the outfits featured in the poster, but I was trying to find any other cool ones that I could include with them. The colors in this pic are more screen accurate than shown on the poster actually, with Michelle in pink and Romy in blue. siebar - I realize I need to add the Shawn of the Dead custom to the .mac page, this sentence is my reminder!

I feel so Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage all of a sudden. Rawk On.

Another night at the track
mood:   accomplished
Today is August 4. Last night, Jess, Molly and I went to see Pat Benatar at Prairie Meadows. (Recall from 6/13/03 Jess and I going to Cheap Trick at the same venue. I had actually forgotten the date and I had to do a search for "Cheap Trick" "Prairie Meadows" to find when it was, since that was easier than reading through all old journal entries) During the day at work I told Shawn that we were going since I know he likes going to concerts and stuff. He mentioned that he actually had to work on a video project for them that night - before getting the job at the store he did a lot of corporate vido work - and we should come up and visit him. Well by the time Molly and I got there after work, the show had already started (missed "Shadows of the Night" - D'oh!) and it was really hot and crowded. So we called SF on Molly's cell and he told us how to get up to the "Television Department." He showed us around the production facilities and then we went out on this little patio with some other people. It was like 4 floors up so it was nice and cool and breezy up there. It was a great place to watch the concert. "Love is a Battlefield" was in the encore and I sang along and even did the dance from the video, heh.

After the show, we went back inside and talked to Shawn a little more. Then Molly wanted to go play some slots so we found the casino floor. After that, we went to Culver's to have some dinner. On the way in we started talking to this one guy who ended up sitting one table away from us in the restaurant. At first I thought he was a little weird, but he was actually really nice and we ate our dinners and just talked about different things with him. We never got his name but he's a truck driver who was passing through Iowa and had been to the show.

Today I woke up early (for a day off) and paid my rent and got a package from the office (Palz action figures from ToyWiz.com). I got "Shadows of the Night" from iTMS - woo! Then I remembered a project I was thinking of during the concert.
Men Singing Pat Benetar Songs on TV Shows
  1. Seinfeld - The Nap - George Steinbrenner - "Heartbreaker"
  2. South Park - Ike's Wee Wee - Mr. Mackey - "Love is a Battlefield" (his lyrics here, do a Find-in-page for Mackey. SP also used this song in Red Man's Greed)
  3. Saturday Night Live - Tiger Woods Biography - Jack Perkins - "Shadows of the Night" (in 2003, Pat Benatar was featured on the real A&E Biography)

For reals, yo

Today is August 7. Eric and Kira's wedding and reception were both really fun. Jonno was Eric's best man, and he gave a really nice toast. Now I am not one to cry at weddings but I will admit I teared up a little when he made his speech at the dinner. They had cupcakes with different flavors of cupcake and they were color-coded by the frosting. Yay for color-coding. Afterwards a few of the family went to Brewer's in Somerset, which was pretty cool too. Today I basically just relaxed and read comics. Also I watched a disc of Homicide. Man, that show is just the best.

The last song I heard on my walk tonight was Self Esteem by the Offspring. Then when I was in the shower, for some reason I was wondering, could you sing Self Esteem to the tune of Runaround Sue? Here is a comparison, using the intros to both songs. You will have to imagine the chords to Runaround Sue yourself (or just listen to a sound clip)
Here's my story, sad but true
It's about a girl that I once knew
She took my love then ran around
With every single guy in town
I wrote her off for the tenth time today
Practiced all the things I would say
She came over, I lost my nerve
I took her back and made her dessert

So I think you could definitely sing SE to the tune of RS. It makes sense, since thematically the former is the 90's equivalent of the latter. (The theme being that women are just pure hell) They both even have nonsense lyrics like "whooaaa"s and "hey"s and "yeah"s. I'll have to bust out the guitar and give it a shot. Hey, bands have been started on less! (Dave Barry once had a column where he mentioned that he and a friend were starting a band which consisted of sitting around, trying to remember the lyrics to "Runaround Sue")

Day w/Jess
mood:   blah
So I was getting ready to write an entry about how I had spent a fun day with Jess and I actually was feeling kind of "blah" now that I was all alone and just doing nothing. BUT THEN I had SNL on and Will Forte was singing his "Halloween" song which is completely INSANE. And I was like crying from laughing so hard. So now I would not say I am blah anymore.

Yesterday after work I drove to Ames and except I forgot my cell phone so I couldn't find Jessica's place, her new place at University Village. I got worried. I had talked to her on the way home from work but somewhere in between coming home and packing my J. Crew pineapple tote and changing shirts I left my phone in the house. So when I got there I had no idea which apt. was hers. And I didn't even know her phone number since like most people with cell phones I don't learn numbers anymore, just program them into the phone :-p Basically I just needed to find some place with internet access so I could grab her info off StalkerWeb. Tried David, he wasn't home. Tried a couple buildings on campus, of course locked. Finally I went to Frederiksen and flagged down a random person and he let me use his computer. I was so thankful.

After we finally met up, we went to the DQ for dinner. It was a nice night and I wanted to eat outisde. Then we went to Wal-Mart and I bought some markers and other school supplies. Next we both had to do some banking so we went to F&M and the helpful ATM helpfully captured my card since the transaction timed-out. Boo. After that we went to Welch Ave Station and hung out like old times, played some pool. That was fun. She was helping me aim and set up actual shots since I don't know how to put much thought into that kind of stuff. [time out from writing this entry for me to watch Mrs. GOB saying "Rick Rick Rick!!!"][and she just mentioned bees. beads??]

After the bar Jess showed me around her apt and we colored with markers. In the morning we went to the bank to try to get my card back (they are just sending me a new one in like 2wks). We didn't have any big plans so we went to the Majestic Lion antiques and got some cool stuff. We each got some magazine ads with kitties and just as we were getting ready to leave we saw this tray of printers letters and they were COOPER BLACK well Cooper Italic but still. I found a lower case r, a, and h so I picked those up too. They look kind of cool, all slanty due to being <i> After antiquing we went to the Blue Sky Creamery in Ankeny to have fancy Science ice cream. Next to Hobby Lobby where I got frames for my kitty print ads.

Finally we got back to my apt and Jess wanted to watch Romy & Michelle since we had been talking about my custom doll project (found some good shiny pink fabric at HL). Then Dad called with the bad news of Knoxville races being called off for the night, due to the rain. So that kind of sucked. Finished out our time together watching Caddyshack and I continued to work on a new project which is pasting all my Ent. Weekly clippings into a notebook. I had to take Jess back home since the plan was that she would go home with Dad after the races, so I had driven both of us from Ames earlier in the day. We went *back* to Ankeny and had Fazoli's then I took her back to Ames. It was quite a long time together and I think it was very fun even with the crazy issues.

Just a quick one, real quick
mood:   happy
Today is August 17 but it just got done being August 16. Busy day at work. I "got tough" with a guy over the phone because I didn't think we should be doing an in-store on a PB.

Via Tom, a really funny Breakfast fighting game inspired by Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. (For some reason when I first typed that I put the hyphen between Mike and Tyson. Wouldn't that be an awesome nasty preppy kid name? Mike-Tyson Waterford, of the Augusta Waterfords. Anywho.) This breakfast game is pretty funny. I mean it has it all, a kitty drinking milk, and a stupid clock playing stupid clock games. I guess their point is "If you can't even have an english muffin! you should try their yogurt drink thingy for breakfast. context that I painstakingly just transcribed for you, making this not a quick one at all

The Facts
mood:   depressed
Today is August 19. Here are the facts as we know them so far.
  1. I drove to work listening to my iPod. I got out of the car with it and walked into work at 1:00 pm
  2. Some time this afternoon, a woman called in to the store saying she had found an iPod. (She did not say where she had found it) She gave our asst. mgr. the serial number, and wanted him to look up who it belonged to. Since HK and I were both busy we were unable to look up the number. The woman hung up before he could get her contact info, other than her first name, Marilyn.
  3. At 4:00 pm I went to break and noticed my iPod was not in my purse. I checked in the car, and asked at Guest Services.
  4. Susie was helping me look and Adam remembered the phone call he took earlier. I ran the serial, and sure enough it was my iPod.
  5. As of 9:30 pm, Marilyn had not called back

Sad entry - skip if ya want
mood:   okay
Today is August 21, meaning yesterday was August 20. Meaning I spent all day writing 8-20-05 on parts stickers and work auths and stuff. So yeah I get to write almost 8-20-50 over and over. The first half of the day was really crappy, then I had a "deep" talk with kristofor, and then I got really hyper and the 2nd half of the day was great. Then after work I went out with Molly and some of her friends. It was Dave's birthday. Today was a pretty good day at work too. Afterwards I ran some training for some of the specialists to learn more iPod troubleshooting and service steps. That was fun.

Do you know the times?
mood:   relaxed
Today is August 27. I'm watching the movie Ray. Since it's critically acclaimed and all. A midget just tried to get Ray Charles high. That is awesome. So far the guy who played "Harlan" on Will and Grace was a guitar player. Accd to the opening credits there are some other cool actors in supporting parts too. I'm watching the extended edition and for some reason it makes all these crazy jumps that always make me feel like the DVD is skipping or some shit. Boo. Oh yeah, and they had Quincy Jones as a young guy and it made me say flashes of Quincy

So it's been some busy time at work but some good times at least. Tonight there was this lady I was helping who I decided looked like me. So I told her this. I was like "we could go around telling people we were related, and they would believe us!" I'm pretty sure it was real creepy.

Prolly the highlight of the week was partying with Jess and David in Ames on Tuesday night. It was off the hook. We got wasted and then went back to Jess's place at U Village and sang along with good songs on the iPod. (The one that's not being held hostage, that is). The gap between Limozeen and Subdivisions is from when we watched Cat News with Swoop hooked up to Jess's TV. Song order was from shuffle with me skipping songs I didn't think would be fun to sing along with for the friends.

I have to work tomorrow but then I get Monday off. Having a weekend off is nice but if not then you get to work the shorter runs, broken up with days off.

Another Post About Music and T-Shirts
mood:   pleased
Today is August 29. Current Music: "Katamari Love - Ending Theme," the quasi-hair metal, power ballady song from the ending (duh) part of Katamari where you go around the globe and roll up all the countries. Word. So I've been reading Preshrunk for awhile; it's pointed me to some cool tees. One thing it turned me on to was the trend of "band members' first names" shirts, as seen here (NWA). PS explains it was inspired by these: Stones, Beatles, and Ramones. Then today, after spotting an ad in one of my UK music mags, I visited DJTees to check out their wares, and found shirts name-checking Zep, the Yardbirds, bebop, jazz, soul, and country. So now you can see that I really really want a "Geddy Alex Neil" shirt. DJT does have one Rush shirt, featuring those guitars that are like, double guitars which is always cool. Other good name shirts I think would be "Tom Robin Rick Bun E." or "David Eddie Michael Alex" (and Heeellll No I would not want one with David and then "Sammy" written in. Boo.) And the ultimate would be one with all the permutations of Yes, basically all the names but Chris would have to be struck through at some point :-p
