Today is September 3. First week of school went fine. Right now I'm
supposed to be doing my English homework, but instead I'm finding out the
life-alteringly necessary details of RUSH'S VISIT TO AMES!
Tickets
go on
sale this Saturday. I'm presenting this as a public service, so that
there is a big crowd for the boys, but NOT so that you can jack me and
get
better seats than I do.
PS if this color hurts your eyes, let me know and I'll change
it! I
just thought it would be a nice diversion from #000000 as a background
color all the time =) Oh yeah, I almost forgot. This month commemorates
two years of news pages!
Today is September 11. Felt weird writing that. On my notes taken in
class today I just wrote "Wednesday." I read a really powerful piece by
Dave Barry in the opinion section on Sunday, about Flight 93 that was
brought down by passengers in Pennsylvania. Read it
here.
I think the for which many people would like an answer is "Why do other
countries hate us so much?" Some ideas. We have crappy foreign policy.
Many Americans are really freakin' ignorant of the world. (See also,
"Norwegia") These countries have lots of problems and it is easier for
their leaders to blame us rather than solve the problems. The people are
uneducated and therefore easier to manipulate into a frenzy. Perhaps
they do see us as a threat to their traditional culture. Except a lot of
Americans probably agree more with them than they realize. As in, for
some people, "traditional values" means women are subservient to men and
stay at home. I can bet there are tons of people in the USA, and in the
Middle East, and anywhere that really agree with this! I think on the
whole, humans are more alike than they are different. There are stupid,
angry ones everywhere, who think they haven't been given a fair shake.
We get in trouble when they organize, whether it's the KKK, inner-city
gang mambers, or the Taliban.
Today is September 16. Went to a fun party with Chris on Saturday night,
after the SUB film (Truman Show). Drinking, dancing, the Buffy the
Vampire Slayer Game! The whole thing started when we ran into our pal
Jeff at Hy-Vee. He just randomly invited us to come drink and play cards
so we said sure! Then we got there and it was a Par-Tay! Some friends
we knew, others we just met that night. Drinks in Rubbermaid containers
labeled with the ingredients. Very classy and fun time.
Here's a link to my Pineapple Inventory!
Woo Hoo! Check out my groovy collection, plus you can sort it by
different categories.
Today is September 19. I'm sitting here in Cpr E 305 Lab. The last two
labs have been insanely easy, but this week there are people left from
the previous class. This makes me uneasy.
Before I was here, I was in the SGI lab, using some kind of UNIX. I'm
not sure what but it was neat. I couldn't get Pico to work right,
though. I wanted to journal from a UNIX machine but I couldn't so here I
am. Life is full of so many options right now. I really really just
want to be done with school and have Chris be done with school too. Then
we could rent ourselves a house in the shade of the freeway. We would
pack our lunches in the morning, and go to work each day. Then when the
evening rolled, we'd come on home and lay our bodies down. And when the
morning light came streaming in, we'd get up and do it again. (This
fantasy brought to you courtesy of Jackson Browne's "The
Pretender.") I will always like Jackson Browne, even though he's
fairly adult contempo. He kind of has a political edge in some of his
music, and he made a song about whacking off, so I guess he's still a
cool dude.
Well, my TA is looking at me so I'd better get to work!
Today is September 25. Career fair was yesterday, kind of exciting. Not
any fun free stuff (tablets, pens, woohoo!) but I did talk to some really
interesting companies. The day before, I got another pineapple kitty in
the mail. She is quite happy with the others.
Today i went to a nifty little boutique in campustown called Zushy. They make some of their own stuff
and also silk-screen designs on blank items. Very hip place.
Today is September 30. Of the three homework assignments I have due
today, two have been turned in and one is almost done! I'm just taking a
little break right now, here on the fourth floor of the Billy Bob Parks Library. Weekend
was pretty cool even if I did have to work both days. First, on
Friday we went to Roland-Story's Homecoming
football game, in Story City. It was a fun time. I talked to some
adults that I like, and some girls who graduated after me and are now in
college too. My neighbors, Dave and Meghan Minner (twin bro and sis)
were both on the Homecoming court! I thought that was neat. And the
girl who was queen was Jodie Klein, whom my brother took to his senior
prom. (He is friends with Jodie's big sis Jamie). Jamie and Jodie's dad
died not too long ago so it was a tough day for them I am sure. Everyone
I talked to asked about Dad and Jonno. Carol Baedke shared a nice story
about how Mom would always win pop. The Boosters had a deal where you
could "buy" a yardline, and if the ball ended up on your yardline at the
end of the quarter, you got a free pop. Carol said Mom won that a lot.
Also I was sad to hear of the Baedke kitty, Tiger, passing away. He was
a good cat and always nice to me when I visited their home.
On Saturday, Chris and I
were planning on going to Sioux City for Karen and Gary's Anniversary.
Buuuut, it turned out to just be an open house and not a "party." We
were given permission from the big 3 (Mom Judy, Grandma Lucille, and Aunt
Karen) to miss the open house and stay in Ames, so as not to have 6 hours
in the car just for an open house. So Chris and I just hung out and
watched the Cyclones beat up on Nebraska. That was pretty cool. Then we
tried driving around Ames to go get some provisions, which turned out to
be a very stupid idea. Sunday I worked again and we were very busy and I
cooked a lot of breakfasts.
I took this quiz today. I got the link from Jess. I pasted it in
because I haven't had any images in my news pages for a while and because
I like TVS so I was happy with my result.

you're the virgin suicides. you're sad but pretty, and very, very
dreamy.
