Last Pineapple Purchase: Tin cup w/painted pineys
Gift from Faith Hagedorn (hard to type, that!)

Today is September 1. Another decent day at work. Right now, I'm chilling out at home, enjoying some "I Love The 70s" on VH1. So far I've seen 76 and most of 77. I was sad =( there was no mention of 2112 for 1976. Nor Boston, for that matter. Damn! Although Stevie Nicks was a "fox of 1977" so that was cool. They're talking up Smokey and the Bandit, which is funny because Meyer and I were talking about it today. Kind of a dumb moment that turned into a nice story - I was carrying chicken gravy to the hot case, and Meyer opened the doors for me and I said "you're the bandit, and I'm the snowman!" because he was running block for me. He told me about seeing it for the first time with his dying uncle in Rochester. The uncle did enjoy the movie, so that made me happy.

Today is September 2. 2 random things of goodness. This morning, I went to the drive-through for breakfast, and received someone else's breakfast which was of greater value than my own. Also I had forgotten some homework for the "professional engineering" class, but it was the same as something I had done for English 314. So that was good, because I just changed a few dates and printed it off. (cosmic apologies to the person who got my breakfast by mistake. hopefully they got their money back or went back and got their right breakfast)

I'm watching Coupling via the Netflix. There's a funny guy named Jeff. There are also mix-ups and semi-cunning plans. I don't know how I would compare it to Friends...I do love the quotes on Friends. This show seems less cheesy (read - no hugging, no learning)

Today is September 3. Lovely autumn afternoon today =) The sun was shining and there was a nice breeze. I was just getting out of clarinet choir (first rehearsal went very well btw) and it was just that perfect fall moment where you're hoping you don't have to deal with any of that summer crap anymore, but it's still nice enough to be outside in shirts and jeans.

I went to a soup supper at Collegiate United Methodist. One of the sunday regulars at the deli invited me. It was a nice time. Debby Wilson from work was there so I mostly hung out with her. Also today I did some homework and I read. Scary. My new Mr. Show DVD came in the mail today, but I'm almost kinda scared to watch it just b/c I loved the first dvd set too much. (if that makes any sense at all...just like I put those episodes up so high, the only place to go is down. Sometimes being a pessimist really sucks!)

Today is September 7. I'm at work right now (suck). I worked Friday night, Saturday morning, and I have to work again Monday night. At least there's plenty of people here today to get stuff done.

Last night Chris and I showed "12 Angry Men" for SUB films. I thought it was a great movie, nicely drawn characters, sharp dialogue, and less than 100 minutes.

Today is September 9. I'm on the 3rd floor of the library. Little Swoopy is all grown up and digging his sweet Airport card I got from the MPC. Apparently it arrived the day after I ordered it, but I never got the message. So I just got it today. Fun times will ensue with me surfing the net during class.

As a reward to me for letting him spread his wings free from wires, Swoop has agreed to give up the Idaho trip journals.
  1. In the air, Pheonix airport
  2. In Boise hotel
  3. In Boise airport
  4. In Des Moines airport

Today is September 15. I had a meeting for senior design this morning and I've been hanging out in Durham (aka Durable Ham) ever since. For the "professional Engineer" aspect of it, we have to make a list of the 10 greatest engineering contributions between 1500 and 1900 A.D. I found this kickass timeline of inventions. You can learn how the electric stove was invented by a Hadaway in 1896. I had never heard of this before. I always hated using electric stoves (compared to gas) but now I will use them with pride. Heh. further research It says here that William Hadaway not only invented the electric stove on June 30, 1896, but that he went on to create the toaster in 1910 at Westinghouse. So I guess toast is in my heritage. I only hope my work with the Holman at work can live up to the memory of William.

Today is September 21. Ah, to once again tread the lights of WWW/news/current.html is very fun. Today at work we were all getting dumber as the day went on. I started out *fairly* dumb as it was, but we were all just acting generally silly and obnoxious, as we like to do when unsupervised. I'm talking about drawing little Homer Simpson's head on eggs, and making a three-person connection out of some register tape and a register spool. (don't ask)

Also, for some reason I was obsessing about a sandwich that McDonald's had during my youth. It came in a special container that was purported to keep the "hot side hot" and the "cold side cold." No one knew what the heck I was talking about. Luckily Mathis, the man with thousands of bits of trivia, came to my rescue with the name: McDLT.

Friday I went to the Octagon art gallery b/c Heather Straszheim is the curator there and a new show was opening. So I saw Faith, Eric, Heather, Warren, Linda, Hope, and Caitlin (damn I don't know how to spell that baby's name). Faith gave me the tin cup mentioned in LPP, from the Ames antique mall. Saturday was work, nothing much noteworthy other than the fact that some dumb guy had to work alone for a few hours. This is a person who routinely refuses to learn new things so we all had a good laugh when he was stuck there with no knowledge. A big dumb guy who talks really slowly, never wants to do any work, but yet has a lot of availability so they seem to schedule him a lot =(

Saturday night was the movie "The Piano Teacher" for SUB. I would reccommend it to pervs who are also into classical music. A tissue-sniffing scene that is not to be missed, ha ha. Joe picked it basically because it won a bunch of stuff at Cannes. Then we watched it and found it very disturbing. Oh well, next week there is a movie with Parkey Posey. Her character's name is Fay. Fay is also the name of one of WIlliam Wegman's photogenic weimeraners. A weimeraner, Beatrice, is Parker Posey's character's dog in Best In Show. This free-association brought to you by me =)

Today is September 25. Right now, I'm in my Cpre 486 class. Some kid just came in with a plate of food that involved barbeque sauce. It smells really good. Tonight there is a Micron dinner dealy at the Broiler, then Chris and i will go to our first statics test.

Some songs I've had in my head lately:
  • "Rawhide" from the Blues Brothers movie. A great cowboy song
  • "Praise You" by Fatboy Slim. Probably because I saw a clip of the video on one of those VH1 countdown specials - this one was funniest musical moments or something. Very good dancing in that video
  • Various songs from The Music Man.

In other music news, Sunday is the first band concert. Crazy as it sounds, I'm not playing any bells, AND I play snare on 2 songs. The world has gone mad. Today while Kleptach was taking attendance, he almost missed Dave (he was sitting down b/c he doesn't play on the march), but then he noticed him. I said " Dave's not here, man," and started cracking up. Nobody really got it, but I think I heard a laugh from the tuba section. So yeah.

Today is September 29. Band concert yesterday. I thought it went really well. I rocked on the snare. Barry said I did a good job on the toms.
I'm excited about the movie "School of Rock" starring Jack Black. First, it just looked like a fun movie with JB. Then I saw a still image and he had a chalkboard with some diagrams of rock bands in different genres, and he had a prog section. Then I learned Joan Cusack's character is a Stevie fan. Then Katie Couric was teasing the next segment on Today, which was an interview with Jack, quoting a line from the film where he tells a kid to pay more like Roundabout (She was all, "Is that Yes? I don't know...I'm dumb"). So yeah. I like when things appeal to me.

Today I'm wearing my sweatshirt that has the Norwegian flag embroidered on it, with the English and Norsk spellings, Norway and Norge. It's warm and shows off my proud Norwegian heritage. Remind me to tell you the story of Norm MacDonald and his proud Gypsy heritage.

Now in Rush news. On October 21, they are releasing a DVD recorded live in Rio and it has a piney on the cover. Which is completely amazing. If they didn't do it for me, then I would like to know WHO. Recently, Rush were mentioned in Maxim (guess whether a phrase is a bible verse or a song lyric, they used a line from By-Tor) and Entertainment Weekly (Playlists of songs with hiiiiigh notes, they used Fly By Night). I will try to get the text posted of those for you. Maxim tends to reference Rush quite a bit. Once they had something about Geddy giving BJ's in a Boise truck stop, then the next month they printed some irate letters (natch).

Today is September 30. I fell up the stairs at the Hub and it hurt pretty bad. I had just received my dog from The Dog Wagon and was walking inside to get a Daily. I scraped myself up but didn't bleed or anything, which is good because I have no idea where I'd go if I needed bandaids. Now I'm going to chill and play some computer solitaire until 486 starts. Oh and I found all my movies; they were hiding in my car. Buffy was under the passenger seat and the Hell House documentary was between the passenger seat and the door. This was a load off my mind because I wasn't sure how they would charge me for losing one disc of a 6-disc set.
