Today is September 12. Yes, the date got into double digits before I got a new current page up. No, you probably don't want to hear about how I have worked like every day in September so far and now I'm starting to get sick. Instead, I'll tell you how yesterday (Saturday) was my last day of work at Hy-Vee. A little anti-climactic, I must say. Especially since Steve [Abbot, general merchandise manager] didn't get on the intercom and do one of those "It's a sad day at the West Ames Hy-Vee...bla bla bl" things. I did get some carnations from these 2 ladies on Tuesday, not sure if they're a couple or not, though they do have the hairdos for it. And many other regulars and co-workers had nice things to say during my last week or last day.

Today my dad and I built a shelf for my dvds and tapes, and we listened to most of A Prairie Home Companion. Some of my happiest moments with my family have come while listening to that program. Pitch-black winter nights, the four of us seated around the kitchen table, eating our parmesan chicken and baked potatoes, or up in Minnesota itself, laying around the cabin on the lake we rented that one year.

For traditional 3-gen Sunday dinner (Grandpa, Dad, and me) we went to Cafe Northwest and it was yum. I spilled a bunch on this pink tee-shirt that Grandpa didn't believe that I have had since the seventh grade. Plus I noticed it has a hole, so I might need to retire it. This week I have to buy a bunch of new stuff anyway: shower curtain, shower curtain rings, dishes, maybe a curtain or two...so I might try to find a proper replacement for this shirt while I'm at it.

Everyone knows it's Butters (That's me!)

Head 'em up, move 'em out

Today is September 15. I just finished up my *sweet* new project which is a custom beaded curtain. 30 strands of neon cord, 30 marbles, 300 sticky glow stars, and 1560 glow pony beads. Once I'm in the apartment, they will be stapled and glued to a piece of cedar, which will then (somehow) be fastened above a doorway. It's gonna be awesome. Tonight I have to do some laundry and probably round up some other stuff and then go sleep. My dad says he's going to wake me up at 8 so we can pack up the truck and head down to the WDM. It will be a big day; hopefully we don't yell at each other or break anything. I don't get my Qwest services until Monday, so for once I will have an excuse for not updating ;-)

Saturday is Mortvedt's wedding. I got him a shop-vac and a shower curtain from the registry. I think it will be a nice wedding and a good party at the Randall gym. Hopefully they like the presents.

Dork Apartment USA
mood:   productive
Today is September 19. As the arranging and organizing and hooking up of new printers progressed, I thought, "Why not?" Why not run a phone cord from Swoopy to the jack over there and see if I have phone service before I'm officially supposed to have phone service. Yes, yes I do. Sweet Lady Emmy has rewarded the Arrested folks, which is incredibly cool. The first season comes out on October 19. I even got to see Starr Jones interview David Cross and Will Arnett on the Red Carpet. She's not that bright, so she didn't know how to deal with them.

My dad and I went to see Mr. 3000 at the Century (Jordan Creek). Yes, that is Dane Cook doing the voice of the sausage mascot. It's a very funny movie; I would reccomend it to fans of Bernie Mac or Baseball movies in general. OR *extreme* Dane Cook fans.

A Little Swimming Fishy
mood:   geeky
Today is September 22. Most of the day has been spent in service training, broken up by dealing with the phone company, getting the mail, driving to the UPS place, picking up my DSL modem kit, and swimming. Tomorrow will be more service training, hopefully broken up by a trip to the West Des Moines Public Library.

So, I was wondering. Folks like me, with celebrity crushes. Who do you hate more? The ones who savagely dump your man and break his heart, or the ones who marry 'em? It is a tough call.*** As far as the marrying ones, it is easier when the spouse of your crush is not famous. (I mean not even like, wanna-be famous, see above). Just another pointless comment from someone who needs to be among the real people on a much more regular basis. I have posted on a couple of online personals, but I doubt anything will come from that. Once the store opens, I can get cracking on my plan to hook up with a hot customer. Oh yeah, and I found out my in-store training will be in Tennessee. They're Saddle Creek, we're Jordan Creek. It fits.

***Or do you hate yourself the most, for being a cookie-eating freak who seriously worries and obsesses over people she will never, ever, nerver, never-nev meet?

San Jose Chillin'
mood:   optimistic
Today is September 26. Made it to San Jose just fine today. Met the other 2 MG's for our store, Hamlin and Chad, as well as another fellow from Houston, Leif. Good folks, all. We're staying at a place called The Oakwood. It's honestly just about like my apartment, with a kitchen, little dining area, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. My couch and chair are better than the living room seating here, but the table/desk/coffee table are much nicer. I get a 1BR to myself because I am awesome.

Today we drove over to "1 Infinite Loop" and took some pics =) There's a corporate store that sells like gift-shop stuff with the Apple logo, which we wanted to go to but it's not open on the weekend. Tomorrow we start our training. The only sort of uneasy thing is that we don't know when our tests are going to be!

I gotta remember to go to a Jack-in-the-Box while I'm out here. Yummy. And Mathis said I should get an "itza" ice cream sandwich. On the weekend, I'm going to get together with my family--my Aunt Karen and Uncle Doug live on Alameda, and cousin Ryann and her husband Gehan live in Oakland. Should be a good time.

Apple Day 1
mood:   geeky
Today is September 27. Geeky, and happily so. Probably will be for the next two weeks. Today we got our IDs and got an overview of training. Also we got an opportunity to shop at the Company store. It's open to the public, but employees get some percent off. So far everybody as been pretty cool. Tomorrow we have a big test over Mac OS 10.3 in the morning. In addition to the guys I met before, there are 3 from Seattle, 1 from Honolulu, 1 from London, and 1 from here in the Bay Area, all going through traning with us. Also there's the Creatives (people who specialize in helping people use their Macs for audio/video/photos/etc) and management folks. Today all of us related to retail ate lunch in Cafe Macs. It was yum. Now we have to study.
